Queer Futures
Following debates surrounding the anti-social turn in queer theory in recent years, there has been a renewed interest in the role of activism, the limits of the political, and the question of normativity and ethics. Queer Futures engages with these concerns, exploring issues of complicity and agency with a central focus on the material and economic as well as philosophical dimensions of sexual politics. Presenting some of the latest research in queer theory, this book draws together diverse perspectives to shed light on possible ‘queer futures’ when different affective, temporal, and local contexts are brought into play. As such, it will appeal to scholars of cultural, political, literary, and social theory, as well as those with interests in gender and sexuality, activism, and queer theory.
London, Queer Spaces and Historiography in the Works of Sarah Waters and Alan Hollinghurst
Queer spaces are crucial for the construction of LGBTQ+ communities, as they constitute places where queer subjects can create political, social, and affective alliances. Júlia Braga Neves shows how these spaces are pivotal for the representation of queer history in the fictional works by the British authors Sarah Waters and Alan Hollinghurst, whose characters and plots are articulated through and within London's sexual geographies. Considering the intersection between gender, sexuality, and class, this study engages with spatial, queer, feminist, and Marxist theories as a means to reflect on London, queer historiography, and the relationship between subject and urban space.

Negotiating the Borders of the Gender Regime
While social change regarding trans(sexuality) has evolved within an expanding nexus of concepts, practices, regulations and institutions, this process has barely been analysed systematically. Against the background of legislative processes on gender recognition in a society shaped by heteronormative hegemony, Adrian de Silva traces how sexology, the law, federal politics and the trans movement interacted to generate or challenge concepts of trans(sexuality) from the mid-1960s to 2014 in the Federal Republic of Germany. The interdisciplinary study draws upon and contributes to debates in (trans)gender and queer studies, political science, sociology of law, sexology and the social movement.

Discursive Intersexions
Life narratives and fiction that represent experiences of hermaphroditism and intersex are at the core of Michaela Koch's study. The analyzed texts from the 19th to the early 21st century are embedded within and contrasted with contemporary debates in medicine, psychology, or activism to reveal the processes of negotiation about the meaning of hermaphroditism and intersex. This cultural studies-informed work challenges both strictly essentialist and constructivist notions. It argues for a differentiated perspective on intersex and hermaphrodite experiences as historically contingent, fully embodied, and nevertheless discursive subject positions.

Anna Voigt untersucht mit einer diskursanalytischen Vorgehensweise Formen von Männlichkeit in der US-Serie „Six Feet Under“ und kommt auf Grundlage kritischer Geschlechter- und Männlichkeitsforschung zu dem Ergebnis, dass auf der Folie ökonomischer Krisen eine Abkehr von komplementären Geschlechtscharakteren stattfindet während männliche Herrschaft weiterhin Wirkungsweisen entfaltet. Die Autorin kontrastiert ihre Analyseergebnisse mit den Serien „The L-Word“ und „Queer as Folk“ und dokumentiert, wie die inszenierten Formen von Männlichkeit mit Klassenverhältnissen und Fragen von Ethnizität und Rassismus in Sozialstrukturen und Institutionen verknüpft sind und dekonstruiert in Fernsehserien vermitteltes Wissen über Geschlecht.
