Książka Stanąć po stronie tłumacza proponuje nowe spojrzenie na zjawisko przekładu: nie chodzi tu już o tropienie błędów, czym najchętniej zajmują się krytycy przekładu, lecz o skupienie się na pozytywnych dokonaniach tłumaczy, które stanowią istotny sens ich pracy. Novum jest także próba połączenia perspektywy hermeneutycznej oraz podejścia opisowego, co postulował (choć swojego zamysłu nie zdołał w pełni zrealizować) Antoine Berman.
