Seditious Theology explores the much analysed British punk movement of the 1970s from a theological perspective. Imaginatively engaging with subjects such as subversion, deconstruction, confrontation and sedition, this book highlights the stark contrasts between the punk genre and the ministry of Jesus while revealing surprising similarities and, in so doing, demonstrates how we may look at both subjects in fresh and unusual ways. Johnson looks at both punk and Jesus and their challenges to symbols, gestures of revolt, constructive use of conflict and the shattering of relational norms. He then points to the seditious pattern in Jesus' life and the way it can be discerned in some recent tren...
From a small boutique on London’s King’s Road in the 1970s, Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood started a fashion revolution. The clothes they created during their shop’s various guises as Let It Rock, Too Fast To Live Too Young To Die, SEX and finally Seditionaries provided not only the wardrobe for the Sex Pistols, but also a confrontational, taboo-busting aesthetic which continues to inspire designers to this very day. Indeed, their work appeared to have no precedent, as if the designs had appeared out of nowhere. A rubber T-shirt with bicycle tyres sewn around the arms and chicken bones spelling out ‘VENUS’ attached to the front. Images culled from pornographic magazines and ...
Clothes for Heroes: The Punk Fashions of Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren is a visual history of the 1970s fashion revolution that was born out of a small London boutique at 430 King’s Road. Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren not only dressed the Sex Pistols, but also pioneered the confrontational, taboo-busting punk aesthetic that continues to inspire designers to this day. From T-shirts adorned with rubber to bondage trousers and clothes made of muslin, their designs were meant to shock. The author has amassed what is perhaps the world’s largest and most significant collection of clothing from the shop’s history, much of which has never appeared in print. The book, housed in a striking slipcase, features stunning images of the clothing and rare photos of the 1970s punk scene, accompanied by interviews and commentary from those who were there.
An innovative history of British youth culture during the 1970s and 1980s, charting the full spectrum of punk's cultural development.

"Anglomania gripped Europe during the mid to late 18th century. Continental Anglophiles such as Voltaire and Montesquieu saw England as a land of reason, freedom, and tolerance. Yet what began as an intellectual phenomenon became, and has remained, a matter of style. Through the lens of fashion, this volume examines aspects of English culture that continue to capture the imaginations of Europeans and Americans, among them the class system, sport, royalty, pageantry, eccentricity, the gentleman, and the country garden. Englishness is a romantic construct, formed by fictive and imaginary narratives. These narratives are, however, not merely the product of European-American Anglophilia but are ...

His goal is to locate and identify the big boss who has control of the system.
A few years. A few months. A few weeks. A few days. Simple multiple choice answers to a complicated question. "How long would it take to ruin a man, his family, his church, and his community?" Well if you ask Sheriff Marcus Wheeler he would tell you he holds the world record of accomplishing all four in just a few days. In reality, most of it was accomplished in under eighteen hours. Was he proud of that? Absolutely! He had warned Pastor Bo Ostermon what would happen to those he loved, if he failed to hold up his end of the deal. After all, isn't a sheriff supposed to be a man of his word? So, as he had promised, he destroyed that little preacher man and became the town hero in the process. ...
