The Size Distribution of Manufacturing Plants and Development

The typical size distribution of manufacturing plants in developing countries has a thick left tail compared to developed countries. The same holds across Indian states, with richer states having a much smaller share of their manufacturing employment in small plants. In this paper, I explore the hypothesis that this income-size relation arises from the fact that low income countries and states have high demand for low quality products which can be produced efficiently in small plants. I provide evidence which is consistent with this hypothesis from both the consumer and producer side. In particular, I show empirically that richer households buy higher price goods while larger plants produce ...

Smart cities with various technological innovations have played an important role and influenced society as well. Due to voluminous data transactions within smart cities, security and privacy concerns need to be dealt with. Though taking care of safety and privacy is challenging, it is essential for a smart city to understand the bio-inspired computing paradigms. This book discusses the utilization of bio-inspired computing procedures for effective computational devices. • Discusses real-world usage of bio-inspired computations • Highlights how bio-inspired computations hold the potential to significantly increase network security and privacy • Talks about how society can avoid consequences of cyber security breaches • Examines the combination of bio-inspired computational methods with IoT, AI and big data This book is primarily aimed at graduates, researchers, IT and industry professionals.

Recent Advances in Intelligent Information Systems and Applied Mathematics

This book describes the latest advances in intelligent techniques such as fuzzy logic, neural networks, and optimization algorithms, and their relevance in building intelligent information systems in combination with applied mathematics. The authors also outline the applications of these systems in areas like intelligent control and robotics, pattern recognition, medical diagnosis, time series prediction, and optimization of complex problems. By sharing fresh ideas and identifying new targets/problems it offers young researchers and students new directions for their future research. The book is intended for readers from mathematics and computer science, in particular professors and students working on theory and applications of intelligent systems for real-world applications.

Structures of Domination in Graphs

This volume comprises 17 contributions that present advanced topics in graph domination, featuring open problems, modern techniques, and recent results. The book is divided into 3 parts. The first part focuses on several domination-related concepts: broadcast domination, alliances, domatic numbers, dominator colorings, irredundance in graphs, private neighbor concepts, game domination, varieties of Roman domination and spectral graph theory. The second part covers domination in hypergraphs, chessboards, and digraphs and tournaments. The third part focuses on the development of algorithms and complexity of signed, minus and majority domination, power domination, and alliances in graphs. The third part also includes a chapter on self-stabilizing algorithms. Of extra benefit to the reader, the first chapter includes a glossary of commonly used terms. The book is intended to provide a reference for established researchers in the fields of domination and graph theory and graduate students who wish to gain knowledge of the topics covered as well as an overview of the major accomplishments and proof techniques used in the field.
