'Devotional Poems' are a collection of 105 devotional lyrics written in simple, effortless, direct and easy to absorb language, spoken mostly by the villagers residing in the Awadhi-speaking belt of Northern India. These Padas (or the lyrics written in Kavitta Chhand) are the spontaneous outpourings of a devotee's heart meant only to be listened to by his Lord in rapt attention and complete silence. These Padas are not meant to be read aloud like a Petition in a King's Court; rather they are supposed to be studied in profound silence and silent profundity by the King Himself in his retiring room where there is nobody to disturb his peace of mind and privacy of place. The content of these Padas is extremely personal, confidential, private and exclusive.

Essentials of Head and Neck Cancer

In recent times, there has been a tremendous increase in our knowledge and understanding of the molecular mechanisms, genetic and epigenetic interactions, and epidemiological and aetiopathogenic factors involved in the development, progression and metastatic spread of head and neck cancers (HNCs). Improvements in diagnostics and imaging techniques, advancements in various treatment modalities, and incorporation of quality-of-life and functional outcomes in HNCs have also significantly influenced the management and outcomes of the disease. This book brings together a broad, comprehensive and balanced view of current approaches to the multidisciplinary management and underlying biology of HNCs...

The style in which the book is written is a model of lucidity and order and the language employed exhibits a chiselled excellence and a well-trimmed form. Every word expresses with directness and vividness what is there in the writer's mind. The work has rational cadence, a super-abundant wealth of words and superfluous ornaments. There is irresistible charm of congruity and magnificent evocation transfused with sublimity. Its expository and ratiocinative approach is inimitable. Clarity of thought and felicity of expression adds a deeper crimson to the blooming rose of the work.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the 13th commonest cancer worldwide, and the most common cancer in the Asian subcontinent due to the widespread habit of tobacco and betel nut chewing. Despite many advances in diagnosis and treatment, the survival statistics have only marginally improved. However our understanding of the disease process and transformation from pre-cancerous lesions of the oral mucosa to an invasive SCC cancer and their progression has expanded exponentially. There are many conditions of the oral mucosa that can progress to an invasive malignancy. A thorough understanding of these conditions is a prerequisite for all those involved in the management of the diseases of th...

Issues in Head and Neck Cancer

Head and neck cancer (HNC) is a rapidly evolving field of medical science. Tremendous progress has been made over the past five decades in revealing the basic molecular biology involved in the disease process, developing and adopting more effective organ-preserving treatment protocols and refining surgical ablative and reconstructive approaches to facilitate functional restoration of patients without compromising survival. We now have a much clearer understanding of the disease, its management and the rehabilitation of patients. But there is still much to be done. This book aims to cover a range of exciting new findings in clinical sciences, basic sciences and allied specialties with an emph...

Non-melanoma skin cancer is a global public health issue. With an ever-increasing, and ageing, world population coupled with increasing numbers of immunosuppressed individuals the number of patients continues to rise. The head and neck is overwhelmingly the most frequent location for the development of a non-melanoma skin cancer and as such challenges the clinician with its complex anatomy. The importance of maintaining the aesthetics of the face and the function of the anatomy cannot be overstated, yet ultimately it is always the aim of curing a patient with the minimum of morbidity that clinicians strive for. However, the spectrum of presentations and subsequent management varies widely, ranging from patients with the ubiquitous low-risk mid-face basal cell carcinoma to those diagnosed with relatively uncommon but potentially life-threatening high-risk squamous cell carcinomas (e.g. involving metastatic lymph nodes or with perineural invasion present) and Merkel cell carcinomas.

This book serves a snapshot of the current knowledge base in field. As human papillomavirus (HPV) causes a rising number of oropharyngeal cancers, understanding the biological, clinical and social implications of this infection has become increasingly important for head and neck practitioners. This book reflects the multidisciplinary nature of the scientific and clinical questions involved in this disease. Experts in epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer present in-depth reviews which will help to improve the reader’s understanding of this topic. The authors provide insight for answers of common patient and provider questions about HPV infection and related disease, and highlight remaining questions to be answered in the coming years.
