Domestic Devotions in Medieval and Early Modern Europe
Domestic devotion has become an increasingly important area of research in recent years, with the publication of a number of significant studies on the early modern period in particular. This Special Issue aims to build on these works and to expand their range, both geographically and chronologically. This collection focuses on lived religion and the devotional practices found in the domestic settings of late medieval and early modern Europe. More particularly, it investigates the degree to which the experience of personal or familial religious practice in the domestic realm intersected with the more public expression of faith in liturgical or communal settings. Its broad geographical range (spanning northern, southern, central and eastern Europe) includes practices related to Christianity, Judaism and Islam. This Special Issue will be of interest to historians, art historians, medievalists, early modernists, historians of religion, anthropologists and theologians, as well as those interested in the history of material religious culture. It also offers important insights into research areas such as gender studies, histories of the emotions and histories of the senses.

L'arquitecte, l'arquitectura i la ciutat
Estudi dels orígens de la modernitat arquitectònica en el període de la Il lustració a les ciutats mitjanes. L’autor, arquitecte i professor titular del Departament d’Arquitectura i Enginyeria de la Construcció de la Universitat de Girona, ha realitzat anteriorment diverses recerques sobre l’urbanisme, l’arquitectura i la construcció a Catalunya. Ara, utilitza la situació professional, arquitectònica i urbana de la ciutat de Girona com exemple d’evolució urbana propi de les ciutats mitjanes catalanes de la segona part del segle XVIII i del primer terç del XIX.
The Jews in Girona
An illustrated history of the Jews of Gerona, in Catalonia, in the 9th-16th centuries. Describes relations between the Jews and the royal, Church, and municipal authorities. The Jews were subject to intermittent violence over the centuries. Pp. 38-55 discuss persecutions between 1391-1492. In the 1391 riots, peasant mobs attacked the Jews; the royal authorities did not protect them, and municipal rulers, unable to control the violence, had the Jews take refuge for over a month in a fortified tower. Describes the forced (and voluntary) conversion of Jews to Christianity and ensuing Inquisitorial pressure to expose false and backsliding converts.
