Beyond Empathy

Written by leaders in the field of relational integrative psychotherapy, this book offers trainees and experienced therapists a methodology for assisting people in rediscovering their ability to maintain genuine relationships and, thus, better psychological health. This classic edition includes a new preface by Richard G. Erskine that reflects on changes in the field since the book’s first publication. Drawing from Rogers' client-centered therapy, Berne's transactional analysis, Perls' Gestalt therapy, Kohut's self-psychology, and the work of British object-relations theorists, this book accessibly introduces the authors’ Keyhole theory while using real life interchanges between therapis...

Hidden Treasure

This classic edition of Violet Oaklander’s groundbreaking book presents her pioneering approach to engaging with children who enter therapy. A new introduction by Peter Mortola reflects on the ways that Hidden Treasure continues to inform therapeutic practice all over the world. Most of the literature available on working with children is written from a traditional `play therapy’ point of view; the Gestalt therapy-based approach detailed here provides a more effective method for psychotherapeutic work with children of all ages. With a focus on the relationship between the therapist and the client, Violet Oaklander shows a wide variety of creative, expressive, and projective techniques in her work, and each chapter reflects and exemplifies the use of this work in the service of therapy. This dynamic approach is applicable to a wide variety of ages as well as individual, family, and group settings. This book will interest child and adolescent psychotherapists, psychologists, social workers, counsellors, school personnel, and parents, as well as graduate students.

Hello, Goodbye

Embrace the power of ritual with simple yet “powerful” (Kim Chestney, author of Radical Intuition and founder of IntuitionLab) practices that slow us down to honor and mark the real moments in our lives—from the loss of a parent to the birth of a child, from grieving a pet to celebrating coming out of the closet. Life has many transitions: A baby is born. A child leaves for college. A marriage. A divorce. A death. We all experience moments of profound change, but what do we do to mark those moments? How do we become mindful of these events and imbue them with purpose and meaning? Could our lives be better, richer, and more resilient if we had more practical resources and rituals to hon...

What is integrative psychotherapy? How effective is the integrative approach to therapy? And what are its limitations? Answering these and other significant questions, this insightful volume provides the working clinician with a practical guide to using an integrative approach to psychotherapy. Erskine and Moursund, both experienced psychotherapists, begin their discussion with a masterful theoretical overview which integrates diverse concepts from various therapy techniques such as psychoanalysis, client-centred therapy, and Gestalt therapy. The authors then use transcripts of actual therapeutic sessions (with explanatory comments interjected) to provide the reader with a broader understanding of both theory and its application in therapy - and to capture some of the elusive essence of the ongoing therapy interview. Unique in its attention to detail, as well as to the therapist's own decision-making process, advanced students and therapists alike will find this volume an invaluable resource.

The large numbers of volunteers who participate in projects such as Project FeederWatch or Project BudBurst collect valuable research data, which, when pooled together, create an enormous body of scientific data on a vast geographic scale. In return, such projects aim to increase participants' connections to science, place, and nature, while supporting science literacy and environmental stewardship. In Citizen Science, experts from a variety of disciplines—including scientists and educati...
