A Escola Superior de Guerra (ESG), criada pela Lei no 785/49, é um Instituto de Altos Estudos de Política, Estratégia e Defesa, integrante da estrutura do Ministério da Defesa, e destina-se a desenvolver e consolidar os conhecimentos necessários ao exercício de funções de direção e assessoramento superior para o planejamento da Defesa Nacional, nela incluídos os aspectos fundamentais da Segurança e do Desenvolvimento. Narrar a Ditadura: Gênero e Memória no Documentário Brasileiro
Narrar a ditadura, gênero e memória no documentário brasileiro é uma reflexão sobre a guinada subjetiva e o protagonismo das mulheres em narrativas documentais que tangenciam as memórias da ditadura civil-militar no Brasil. A partir da análise de oito documentários produzidos por diretoras, entre 1996 e 2013, identificam-se três mecanismos de reconstrução de histórias de vida e interpretação de uma memória pública: a prevalência do self, a exposição do fragmento de si, a montagem de relatos verossímeis diante da perda e do trauma de familiares. Essa produção cinematográfica Pós-Retomada caracteriza-se por narrativas construídas a partir de afetos subjetivantes e de uma perspectiva de gênero que imprime uma memória vicária no pós-ditadura. Ao passo que democratizaram afecções por meio de imagens pedagógicas sobre o passado, tais filmes deixam evidente como políticas de reparação, de justiça e de verdade ainda permanecem em disputa no país.
In the Hands of Strangers
In the Hands of Strangers is a collection of sixty-seven documents by writers and witnesses from the past, both black and white, that offer perspectives on the trade and movement of slaves. Many elucidate the long-standing discord between North and South over the issue of slavery. Documents are divided into three parts that cover the African slave trade, the internal U.S. slave trade, and the series of conflicts and crises that led to the Civil War. They cover a variety of topics including the forced transport of slaves throughout East Coast and Gulf Coast states, buying and selling of slaves, increasingly contentious debates over the legitimacy of slavery, and effects of the breakup of families. The volume concludes with a brilliant essay by Frederick Douglass that asks the question: &"What shall be done with the Negro?&"

During the 19th century, the United States and Europe were on the brink of a transition that would lead to the modern world. In the middle of the Atlantic the Dabney family from Boston had settled on the small island of Faial in the Azores and quickly became involved in the political, literary, intellectual and religious changes taking place at that time on both sides of the Atlantic. This book provides a rare glimpse of life from the point of view of some well-known historical figures, as well as some "anonymous" insiders, creating a picture of individuals and events in the 19th century from a fresh perspective. In some instances it fills in unsuspected gaps or provides different interpretations of what occurred in the story of the 19th century.
