Ratoath has been mentioned as the place of his birth, and in all probability the surmise is correct. Pigott, Senior, was for many years a clerk in the office'of the Tablet, of which Frederick Lucas'was editor and proprietor. He had also been employed by Peter Purcell, of Dublin, Who held the contract for the transmission ofthe mails to the provinces.
