Excerpt from Life and Administration of Sir Robert Eden On May 8, I 758, he was promoted from cadet to ensign in the Coldstream Regiment of Footguards,1 and in that posi tion he embarked with the second battalion of that famous regiment in July, I 760, for active service in Germany, where the seven years' war was then raging. He was promoted to the position Of Lieutenant and Captain in the Coldstream Guards on September 23, 1762, and returned with his regi ment to London at the conclusion of the war.
