Byzantine and Medieval Cappadocia
The focus of the book is a particular region of the Byzantine Empire, Cappadocia, within Anatolia, in the centre of what is now Turkey. Its history as a part of this confederation of territories coincides with the medieval period in Europe. This monograph deals with various aspects of the province; it begins with its environment and climate, goes to some of its institutions and buildings, and ends with the paintings which the art-ists employed to decorate the latter, as well as with a particular type of inscriptions (those along the frontiers). It also considers education in Cappadocia during the Byzantines. The study is a scholarly/professional work that draws on the author's current research as well as on the material which the author developed in the last four years while teaching for the University of Ox-ford.

International Symposium on East Anatolia—South Caucasus Cultures
The Southern Caucasus is a region of great historical, cultural and strategic importance, which means that it has become an indispensable research field for most of the social sciences, particularly archaeology. However, despite its rich potential, research in the areas of modern-day Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Nakhichevan, North-western Iran and North-eastern Turkey has been inadequate when compared with other important culture basins such as Mesopotamia and the Mediterranean. In October 2012, Atatürk University in Erzurum, North-eastern Anatolia, Turkey, with the patronage of the Eurasian Silk Road Universities Consortium (ESRUC), hosted a Symposium of academics from more than 120 science and education institutions around the world to discuss opinions and share information about cultures in this region from its earliest times to the Middle Ages, within the scope of Ancient History, Archaeology, Art History, and Ethno-archaeology. In this book, rock-cut and underground structures of Koramaz Valley on the Anatolian Plateau in Turkey are described in detail. The valley; located in eastern Turkey near the town of Kayseri, has hundreds of rock-cut structures, in addition to several underground cities, and almost none of them have been studied before.
