The Expansion of Christianity

The Lord of the Gospel of John
In the Gospel of John, one aspect of Jesus' divinity is his lordship. Paul C.J. Riley examines Jesus' lordship through the use of one Christological title, kyrios, a word which can be translated as Lord, master, owner or sir. Because kyrios is often used by characters in the narrative, Riley considers it from a narrative perspective. As a result, the first question he examines is how kyrios functions. In addition, due to textual variation for some occurrences of kyrios, the next question addressed is where kyrios is. From a firm narrative and textual foundation, the final question the author asks is what kyrios means. The answers to these three questions provide a comprehensive understanding of Jesus' divine lordship in the Gospel of John.

The Text Of The Apostolos In Epiphanius Of Salamis
As part of the Society of Biblical Literature's The New Testament in the Greek Fathers series, this book examines the textual affinities of Epiphanius of Salamis in Acts, the Catholic Epistles, and the Pauline Epistles. Devising careful criteria for selecting quotations and following established criteria for analyzing patristic data, Osburn reverses the commonly accepted notion that Epiphanius systematically reflects an early form of the Byzantine text. While his text of the Catholic Epistles was likely Byzantine in character, the Greek text of Acts and the Pauline Epistles used by Epiphanius was common in the Eastern Mediterranean during the fourth century C.E. and is similar to the Later Egyptian text-form found in Codex Alexandrinus and Codex Ephraemi rescriptus. In addition to enriching our understanding of Epiphanius, this volume broadens our knowledge of the New Testament text in the fourth century. The Text of the Apostolos in Athanasius of Alexandria
The text-critical study of the Apostolos (all of the New Testament apart from the Gospels) of the fourth-century Greek Father Athanasius of Alexandria has two aims in view: one analytical and one methodological. An initial review of Athanasius' life and writings and a survey of the Alexandrian text-type precede an analysis of Athanasius' text to determine its classification within the major New Testament text-types, and particularly its suspected Alexandrian character. The book also compares the results of methods traditionally used on the texts of the Fathers with the use of an alternative and advanced method, multivariate analysis. Unlike quantitative and group profile analyses, multivariate analysis utilizes not just a single dimension but the full dimensionality of the source data.
