Interfaces are important elements of digital scholarly editions as they allow and direct the interaction of users with the online content and they facilitate the access to and exchange of data and information. Some interfaces are created for the human user (GUI), others for machine interaction and data exchange (API). Both aspects of interfaces and their roles in digital scholarly editing were discussed at a conference in 2016 organised by the Centre for Information Modelling at the University of Graz and the Digital Scholarly Editions Initial Training Network DiXiT. This volume includes a range of papers presented at the conference that highlight the diverse views and approaches towards interfaces in the digital scholarly editing community.

With this book, you will learn hybrid mobile application development using Ionic. This book uses Cordova 5.0.0, Ionic CLI 1.5.0, and Ionic 1.0.0 to explain the concepts and build apps. To begin with, the book helps you understand where Ionic fits in today's world. Then, you will dive deep into Ionic CSS components and Ionic-AngularJS directives and services. You will also examine theming Ionic apps using the built-in SCSS setup. Next, you will learn to build an Ionic client for a secure REST API, where you will implement user authentication and token-based development. Cordova and ngCordova will be explored, and you will learn how you can integrate device-specific features such as a camera and Geolocation with an Ionic app. We will wrap up the book by building a messaging app, which deals with talking to Firebase (a real-time data store), as well as device features. By the end of this book, you will be able to develop a hybrid mobile application from start to finish, and generate device-specific installers.

JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight text-based data interchange format used to create objects to transfer data over the Internet. It's widely used today by common web applications, as well as mobile applications. This book gives you clear ways that you can exchange objects using JSON, regardless of whether you're developing a web or traditional networked application. You'll start with a brief refresher on JSON and JavaScript syntax and read and write on the client and server. Then, you'll learn how to use JSON in simple AJAX applications using AngularJS and jQuery. Next, you will learn how to exchange objects with databases using MongoDB and CouchDB. You'll also explore how to use JSON in a type-safe manner, writing programs that have fewer bugs.
