"From 1998 to 2005 Neil Drabble photographed an American teenager, Roy, as he grew from adolescence to early manhood. On one level this extensive body of work can be viewed as a fascinating document of an always-compelling transition. Closer scrutiny reveals further nuances; a collaboration, a partnership, a personal portrait and at the same time a universal picture of adolescence. Drabble chose not to depict significant events that might appear in a family album nor definitive moments associated with documentary photography. Instead, these photographs concentrate on the listless, off-scene periods, the 'in between moments' of everyday life. This focus on the marginal passages of disregarded time situates the viewer at the heart of adolescence, defined as the period between childhood and adulthood, suspended between longing (for the deferred promise of adulthood) and regret (for the loss of childhood as refuge). By photographing the same person repeatedly and intimately over their formative years, a sense of mirroring began to emerge, reawakening something of the artist's own adolescent self, blurring the line between portrait and self-portrait"--Provided by publisher.

Raja Rammohun Roy

This exceptional work is a study of the interreligious views of Raja Rammohun Roy - the 19th century's premier Hindu reformer, theologian, and polemicist – whose many initiatives heralded a rebirth of Hindu identity, both in India and abroad. The momentum of Roy's initiatives continued thereafter in all of India's efforts in religious, social and political transformation. His works and ideas awakened a self-awareness to discover the past, making it relevant to the present and visualizing a promising future. Herein is discussed Roy's meeting with both Islam and Christianity, an encounter that sharpened the Hindu mind to come to terms with these two vigorous Abrahamic faiths - one of which held a long and checkered history in India and the other, the faith of colonial domination.

Dr. Roy's Everything Grammar Volume 2

Dr. Roy’s Everything Grammar Volume 2 focuses on the more complex side of grammar. This includes problems in phrases and clauses, common errors, special cases, rules, and paragraph style. Lessons include a large amount of student work and a speaking element. The units may also be studied as single focus units, which teachers may use as needed and in any sequence. Dr. Paul R. Friesen has worked in the ESL education field for fifteen years, developing materials for a wide range of students. Currently this book is in some private schools in South Korea. The process of “writing what they’re thinking” helps students retain their learning longer. The style is easy to work through quickly, helping students feel a sense of accomplishment. Using the 7 Step to Story making plan, students can put larger blocks of learning into stories, thereby creating a more creative lesson for the teacher, and one that is more challenging for the student.

This is a true story of young men who fought and died for their country. It puts the reader behind the stick of a Sopwith Camel from the pilot's point of view. This is volume 1 and volume 2 combined for the ebook edition. Part One of this comprehensive study covers the life of Captain Arthur Roy Brown, who is well-known as an ace fighter pilot. The basic story is told in Brown’s own words, via his previously unpublished letters home and the entries in his Pilot’s Flying Log Book. Part Two of the book covers Captain Brown’s encounter with Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron, in detail. In 1995 Alan Bennett toured the site in France where Captain Brown had attacked the Red Baron on 21 ...

Political Philosophy of M. N. Roy

Political Philosophy of M. N. Roy M.N. Roy may be best remembered as a philosopher of Radical Humanism. He propounded his new philosophy as a solution for the political, cultural and moral crisis which confronted mankind since 1945. His philosophy was in the nature of a 'Third Force' , as he believed that Communism, as it unfolded itself in the Soviet Union in the Stalinist era, was the greatest menace to human potentialities. He elaborated his schemes of 'Radical Democracy' and 'Humanist Politics' as integral parts of Radical Humanism to philosophically reconstruct a socially-cohesive state structure. The edifice of his philosophy rested on four laudable pillars viz. Rationalism, Humanism, ...

Roy D. Chapin

"John Cuthbert Long's Roy D. Chapin is a thorough and detailed biography of a remarkable, but little-known Detroit automobile industry pioneer. Historians should include Roy Dikeman Chapin (February 23, 1880-February 16, 1936) in any listing of significant American auto industry pioneers, along with the Duryea brothers, Ransom E. Olds, Henry Leland, Henry Ford, William C. Durant, and the Dodge brothers. Outside the cloister of automotive historians, Roy Chapin is an unknown. This is in part because no company or car bore his name. Unlike many contemporary auto pioneers, Roy Chapin was a modest man who did not promote himself. Even Long's superb biography of Chapin is not well-known because it was privately printed in 1945 with a small press run. In reprinting this volume, Wayne State University Press is making an important contribution to automotive history." -From the introduction by Charles K. Hyde, Department of History, Wayne State University
