An Architectural View of Spatial Data Infrastructures

Terminological Ontologies

Information infrastructures are integrated solutions based on the fusion of information and communication technologies. They are characterized by the large amount of data that must be managed accordingly. An information infrastructure requires an efficient and effective information retrieval system to provide access to the items stored in the infrastructure. Terminological Ontologies: Design, Management and Practical Applications presents the main problems that affect the discovery systems of information infrastructures to manage terminological models, and introduces a combination of research tools and applications in Semantic Web technologies. This book specifically analyzes the need to cre...

In the wake of the so-called information technology revolution, many stakeholders from the public and private sectors (including citizens) have indeed grown accustomed to the promise and usability of spatial data infrastructures (SDI) for data access, use, and sharing. Analyzing the obstacles as well as the processes and mechanisms of integration a

Web and Wireless Geographical Information Systems

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 5th International Workshop on Web and Wireless Geographical Information Systems, W2GIS 2005, held in Lausanne, Switzerland in December 2005. The 25 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 70 submissions and cover a wide range of topics from web semantic and personalization, contextual representation and mapping to querying in mobile environment, to mobile networks and location-based services. The papers are organized in topical sections on mobile GIS and LBS, mapping and representation issues in Web and mobile GIS, mobile networks, querying in a mobile environment, context and personalization issues in Web and mobile GIS, Web GIS, and modeling for Web and mobile GIS.

In front of you are the proceedings of the First International Conference on Electronic Government and Information Systems Perspective, EGOVIS. This conference builts on the tradition of its predecessors, the Electronic Government Conferences (EGOV) under the DEXA umbrella, which have been ongoing for nine years, but it also - cluded some innovations. In view of the large number of electronic government c- ferences, we found it important to focus the scope of the conference a little and to increase the quality requirements. Hence this year’s conference featured a tougher review process and a smaller set of accepted papers. As a result, these proceedings contain the very best papers of 2010...

This book presents a state-of-the-art overview of ongoing GIScience research that has been presented at the 10th Conference of the Association of Geographic Information Laboratories for Europe (AGILE), held in Aalborg, Denmark. Included are 27 fully peer-reviewed papers not only covering basic GIScience research themes, but also ongoing research on technological advancements, as well as applied research on environmental modeling and management.

Geographic Information Metadata for Spatial Data Infrastructures

Geographic Information Metadata for Spatial Data Infrastructures

Metadata play a fundamental role in both DLs and SDIs. Commonly defined as "structured data about data" or "data which describe attributes of a resource" or, more simply, "information about data", it is an essential requirement for locating and evaluating available data. Therefore, this book focuses on the study of different metadata aspects, which contribute to a more efficient use of DLs and SDIs. The three main issues addressed are: the management of nested collections of resources, the interoperability between metadata schemas, and the integration of information retrieval techniques to the discovery services of geographic data catalogs (contributing in this way to avoid metadata content heterogeneity).
