The papers included in this Special Issue "Bioactive Molecules from Extreme Environments" provide an overview of the growing interest in species biodiversity, highlighting the importance of marine extreme environments as sources of a unique marine chemical diversity of molecules. It is worth noting that six articles in this Special Issue are focused on molecules and enzymes isolated from Antarctica. This means that there is a growing interest in this habitat, most probably due to being perceived as an important source of drug discovery. In fact, the unique environment and ecological pressures of marine polar regions might be the major drivers of a selection of unique biological communities that are able to biosynthesize new compounds with diverse biological activities. It is expected that, in the near future, more marine molecules from polar regions, as well as from other extreme habitats, will find their way into biomedical and biotechnological applications.

This book focuses on cold habitat microbes as a potential source of elite enzymes and secondary metabolites to meet the growing demands of the pharmaceutical, food and biotechnological industries. Microbes living in such extremely cold conditions are reported to produce various biomolecules with potential biotechnological applications. The book overviews recent research trends to discover such important biomolecules and also suggests future research directions to discover such elite novel biomolecules. Salient features: Covers studies on various biotic communities and abiotic components of the soil of terrestrial habitats with a focus on cold habitats Discusses various 'Omic' approaches: metagenomics and meta-transcriptomics Lists adaptation strategies adopted by cold-adapted microbes Highlights various biotechnological and industrially important biomolecules produced by cold-adapted microbes Explores the role of microbial biofilm in the degradation of microplastics in cold habitats

China has its own history and success in business with a system of management which is very different to Western models. China's business methods are receiving more global attention as the Chinese economy rises and proves resilient to many international financial problems. However, Chinese business and management are not widely understood outside of China. This book addresses the issue by discussing Western and Chinese management practices and exploring how successful management practices can be learned from both models. An understanding and appreciation of both Western and Chinese management is likely to be essential for the corporate leaders of tomorrow. The book argues that good managemen...

Electric Circuits

This textbook serves as a tutorial for engineering students. Fundamental circuit analysis methods are presented at a level accessible to students with minimal background in engineering. The emphasis of the book is on basic concepts, using mathematical equations only as needed. Analogies to everyday life are used throughout the book in order to make the material easier to understand. Even though this book focuses on the fundamentals, it reveals the authors' deep insight into the relationship between the phasor, Fourier transform, and Laplace transform, and explains to students why these transforms are employed in circuit analysis.
