Advances in Mathematical Chemistry and Applications highlights the recent progress in the emerging discipline of discrete mathematical chemistry. Editors Subhash C. Basak, Guillermo Restrepo, and Jose Luis Villaveces have brought together 27 chapters written by 68 internationally renowned experts in these two volumes. Each volume comprises a wise integration of mathematical and chemical concepts and covers numerous applications in the field of drug discovery, bioinformatics, chemoinformatics, computational biology, mathematical proteomics, and ecotoxicology. Volume 1 includes chapters on mathematical structural descriptors of molecules and biomolecules, applications of partially ordered sets...

Combinatorial Chemistry

The new edition of this practice-oriented handbook features thoroughly updated contents, including recent developments in parallel synthesis. A new chapter on screening complements the overview of combinatorial strategy and synthetic methods. "Experimental details and complete reaction data [...] are a constant theme running through this work" (Angewandte Chemie) "Recommended to newcomers in the field of combinatorial chemical synthesis because of its broad scope" (Journal of the American Chemical Society)

Principles and Practice of Mixtures Toxicology

This first comprehensive treatment of the subject for more than a decade includes the latest research on nanoparticle toxicology. The practical handbook addresses all areas where toxic mixtures are encountered, from environmental via occupational to medical settings, giving special consideration to air and water, and to the specific requirements for study design in mixture toxicology. While no extensive prior knowledge or toxicological experience is required, the practice-oriented case studies and examples in the second part make this the ideal companion for the professional toxicologist in industry or healthcare institutions with little time for academic study.

Progression in Glaucoma

Introduction We mark the eighth consecutive year for the World Glaucoma Association Glaucoma Consensus with Consensus VIII. Our topic is the Progression of Glaucoma. Global experts were invited and assembled by our international co-Chairs beginning in January 2011, to participate in the Project Forum E-Room, a unique online opportunity to facilitate discussion of each of the consensus meetings. Participants then were engaged in the discussion of five topical areas to reach consensus on key issues that surround and permeate all aspects of the progression of glaucoma. The results of these thoughtful discussions then were summarized by each of the sections with preliminary consensus statements....

Theoretical Modeling of Inorganic Nanostructures

This book deals with the theoretical and computational simulation of monoperiodic nanostructures for different classes of inorganic substances. These simulations are related to their synthesis and experimental studies. A theoretical formalism is developed to describe 1D nanostructures with symmetric shapes and morphologies. Three types of models are considered for this aim: (i) nanotubes (rolled from 2D nanolayers and described within the formalism of line symmetry groups); (ii) nanoribbons (obtained from 2D nanolayers by their cutting along the chosen direction of translation); (iii) nanowires (obtained from 3D lattice by its sectioning along the crystalline planes parallel to the chosen direction of translation). Quantum chemistry ab-initio methods applied for LCAO calculations on electronic and vibrational properties of 1D nanostructures are thoroughly described. Understanding of theoretical aspects presented here enlarges the possibilities for synthesis of monoperiodic nanostructures with predictable morphology and better interpretation of their properties.

Fuels and Energy

Human civilization has long relied on fire from biomass for energy. Burning, an oxidation reaction, liberates energy and continues until the material reaches its highest oxidation state. The evolution of energy sources, from forest fires to nuclear fuels, marks significant progress. Understanding fuel types and classifications is essential for students and educators. This book covers upstream and downstream processing of various fuels—biomass, petroleum, coal, natural gas, nuclear fuels, hydrogen, and fuel cells—along with combustion technology for energy extraction. It also addresses recent advances, emission concerns from energy industries, and stubble burning. The book explores how advanced formulations of coal, petroleum, and alternative fuels can be optimized for existing combustion systems, ensuring efficiency and compliance with EURO VI emission norms. This comprehensive guide aims to inform readers about fuel classification, energy production, and future research prospects.
