Advances in Molecular Spectroscopy, Volume 2 covers the proceedings of the Fourth International Meeting on Molecular Spectroscopy. This volume is composed of 80 chapters that focus on numerous applications of various molecular spectroscopic techniques, particularly in the field of organic compound analysis. The techniques covered include UV absorption, fluorescence, IR spectroscopy. Various organic compounds evaluated include diphenylselenides, benzyl-phenyl-selenides, substituted benzophenones, hydrides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, methylhydroxylamines, methyl thiocyanate, poly aldehydes, and cycle-trimethylene trinitramine. This book is of value to analytical and organic chemists.

Lasers and Synergetics

Lasers and Synergetics

Lasers and Synergetics, written to honour Hermann Haken on his 60th birthday, is concerned with the two main areas of research to which Prof. Haken has made fundamental contributions. In fact, the two areas are interrelated since the development of the interdisciplinary science synergetics has been closely connected with the emergence of laser theory. Synergetics deals with complex systems that possess the fundamental property of spontaneous selforganization of their macroscopic behaviour. The book summarizes basic ideas, important concepts and principles used to describe selforganizing systems from a unified viewpoint. Special attention is paid to lasers, nonlinear optics and to coherence phenomena in other physical, biological and sociological systems. Some surveys of historical developments are presented, but most space is devoted to the publication of recent results and the description of current research work.

Luminescence Spectroscopy of Semiconductors

  • Publisher: OUP Oxford

This book reviews up-to-date ideas of how the luminescence radiation in semiconductors originates and how to analyze it experimentally. The book fills a gap between general textbooks on optical properties of solids and specialized monographs on luminescence. It is unique in its coherent treatment of the phenomenon of luminescence from the very introductory definitions, from light emission in bulk crystalline and amorphous materials to the advanced chapters that deal with semiconductor nano objects, including spectroscopy of individual nanocrystals. The theory of radiative recombination channels in semiconductors is considered on a level of intuitive physical understanding rather than rigorous quantum mechanical treatment. The book is based on teaching and written in the style of a graduate text with plenty of tutorial material, illustrations, and problem sets at chapter ends. It is designed predominantly for students in physics, optics, optoelectronics and materials science.

Semiconductor Optics

New chapters add coverage of current topics such as cavity polaritons, photonic structures, bulk semiconductors and structures of reduced dimensionality. The mathematics is kept as elementary as possible, sufficient for an intuitive understanding of the experimental results and techniques treated.
