Carbon fibre is the most preferred lightweight manufacturing material, and is increasingly becoming the material of choice for manufacturers around the world. Its high tensile strength, low weight and low thermal expansion have opened a world of opportunities. Everyone from elite athletes, to car enthusiasts, to the makers of passenger jets, is moving to carbon fibre. The objective of this Update is to bring together available information on the production, properties, application and future of carbon fibres. This Update will be of interest to those involved in the investigation of carbon fibre, carbon-fibre manufacturers, and users of carbon fibres. A further objective is to review the status of carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) recycling operations, focusing on state-of-the-art fibre reclamation and re-manufacturing processes, as well as the commercialisation and potential applications of recycled products. This Update will also be of interest to those involved in the recycling of CFRP and manufacturing of composites from recycled CFRP. Students engaged in the fields of chemistry, material science and polymer science will also find this Update very useful.
Advances in Applied Mechanics, Volume 56 in this ongoing series, highlights new advances in the field, with this new volume presenting interesting chapters on From Digital Control to Digital Twins in Medicine: A brief review and future perspectives, Predicting Nonlinear Deformation and Yarn Kinematics of Plain Weave Fabrics with Multiscale Recursive Micromechanics, Mechanics Theories for Anisotropic or Composite Materials, Historical purview and recent advances in fracture mechanics of elastomeric matrix composites, Mechanics constitutive models for viscoelastic solid materials: Development and a critical review, and more. - Provides the authority and expertise of leading contributors from an international board of authors - Presents the latest release in the Advances in Applied Mechanics series
This unique volume presents the latest developments in the field of advanced woven and braided textile composites, with particular emphasis on computational approaches (finite elements, meshfree). Advanced textile composites such as woven, braided, knitted and stitched fabrics are increasingly being used as structural materials in industrial applications due to their efficiency at reinforcing more directions within a single layer and their ability to conform to surfaces with complex curvatures. Furthermore, textile composites provide improved impact resistance, exceptional thermal, fatigue and corrosion resistance, as well as being easier and cheaper to handle and fabricate compared to UD composites.Topics covered in this book include: 2D and 3D plain, twill, satin woven and braided composites, micro-level and macro-level modelling, failure mechanisms, theoretical studies on cryogenic crack behaviour and the specific deformation modes of textile reinforcements, which include the kinematic and hypoelastic models. This book will be particularly relevant to professional engineers, graduate students and researchers interested in composite materials.
This book represents the final reports of the scientific projects funded within the DFG-SPP1466 and, hence, provides the reader with the possibility to familiarize with the leading edge of VHCF research. It draws a balance on the existing knowledge and its enhancement by the joint research action of the priority program. Three different material classes are dealt with: structural metallic materials, long-fiber-reinforced polymers and materials used in micro-electro-mechanical systems. The project topics address the development of suitable experimental techniques for high-frequency testing and damage monitoring, the characterization of damage mechanisms and damage evolution, the development of mechanism-based models and the transfer of the obtained knowledge and understanding into engineering regulations and applications.
The book presents the proceedings of the International Conference on “Sustainable Processes and Clean Energy Transition” (2022).Topics covered include Biomass and Biofuel, Green Processes and Materials, and Safety and Energy Systems.
This reference work provides comprehensive information about the bioactive molecules presented in our daily food and their effect on the physical and mental state of our body. Although the concept of functional food is new, the consumption of selected food to attain a specific effect existed already in ancient civilizations, namely of China and India. Consumers are now more attentive to food quality, safety and health benefits, and the food industry is led to develop processed- and packaged-food, particularly in terms of calories, quality, nutritional value and bioactive molecules. This book covers the entire range of bioactive molecules presented in daily food, such as carbohydrates, protei...
