Kuari Pass Trek
The Kuari Pass Trek is a popular trek in the state of Uttarakhand, India and is probably the best window to view the high Himalayan peaks. The views are simply breathtaking. Facing north, the vision sweeps from the gorges of Trishul in the east to the peaks of Kedarnath in the west—the Kedarnath, Chaukhamba, Nilkantha, Kamet, Gauri Parbat, Hathi Parbat, Nandadevi, Bethartoli, Dunagiri (all 6000 m or 7000 m high peaks)—all lined one after the other in a magnificent arc. Southwards, the foothills stretch to the haze of the distant plains. The area is dotted with remote villages, providing a good insight into local life. The purpose of this book is to present a kaleidoscope of the Kuari Pass Trek experienced in the October 2013. Hopefully, this will encourage more people to undertake such activities in Uttarakhand—a haven for adventure sports. A boost to ecofriendly tourism in this area will go a long way in rebuilding the lives of the people of Uttarakhand, who face severe hardships in the wake of the devastations of 2013.
