This uniquely accessible volume challenges professionals to understand—and help correct—health disparities, both at the patient level and in their larger social contexts. Dedicated to eradicating this ongoing injustice, contributors focus on marginalized populations, the role of healthcare systems in perpetuating inequities, the need for deeper engagement and listening by professionals, and the need for advocacy within professional education and the political/policy arena. The compelling case narratives at the core of the book illustrate the interrelated biopsychosocial components of patients’ health problems and the gradations of learning needed for practitioners to address them effec...

Patchwork Apartheid

Racial restrictions on the right to buy, sell, or occupy property also effectively truncated the political, social, and economic citizenship of those targeted for exclusion. This edition offers a more succinct and comprehensive survey of the most important but underreported news stories of 2020; in addition to a comparative analysis of the current state of corporate and independent news media, and its effect on democracy. The establishment media sustains a decrepit post-truth era, as examined the lowlight features: "Junk Food News"-frivolous stories that distract the public from actual news-and-"News Abuse"-important sto...

The claims for bounty land were made through the Executive or Council. Certificates of heirship, wills and powers of attorney were so "annexed" to the certificate of allowance that they were "retained on file in the office of the Council." Such papers eventually were placed on file in the Archives Department of the State Library. Wherever the vouchers in the Land Office failed to impart much genealogical detail, I have endeavored to find something among the papers in the Archive Department.
