There has been an explosion in the quantity of sports history literature published in recent years, making it increasingly difficult to keep abreast of developments. The annual number of publications has increased from around 250 to 1,000 a year over the last decade. This is due in part to the fact that during the late 1980s and 90s, many clubs, leagues and governing bodies of sport have celebrated their centenaries and produced histories to mark this occasion and commemorate their achievements. It is also the result of the growing popularity and realisation of the importance of sport history research within academe. This international bibliography of books, articles, conference proceedings and essays in the English language is a one-stop for the sports historian to know what is new.

Ever since the behavioral revolution reached Communist studies more than 2 decades ago, Western scholarship has tended to ignore the powerful and unwieldy institutional structure of the Soviet government. Today, suddenly, it is clear that the dramatic political and legislative reforms of the Gorbachev years will remain incomplete as long as the issues of state bureaucratic power and executive prerogative are unresolved. This volume, brings together original studies of the Soviet executive under Gorbachev by specialists including Barbara Chotiner, Stephen Fortescue, Brnda Horrigan, Ellen Jones, Wayne Limberg, T.H. Rigby and Louise Shelley. Among the topics covered are the major economic, national security and law enforcement ministries, the presidency, the cabinet and questions of presidential-ministerial, presidential-presidential, legislative-executive and party-state relations.

“Only the Russians live in Russia, right?” “It is very cold over there, isn’t it?” “Who are these Russians?” You will find answers to these and other similar questions in this book. We worked hard so you can have first-hand information about Russia. We encourage you to go ahead and explore this beautiful country with its good people who are often taken for enemies simply because their government was “red.” The comprehensive and easy-to-use index will help you instantly locate any specific Republic or ethnic group you would be interested in. We’ve also included maps and illustrations to provide a more complete picture of the country and those who inhabit it. We hope that you will be able to see live people behind the black letters on white paper, and that this acquired knowledge will change your attitude toward “Russians” for the better. Read the book, you will not regret it!

Emergency Psychiatry

This eagerly awaited volume occupies an important place in the series Critical Issues in Psychiatry. Most mental health professionals are quite at home with ordinary day-to-day crises of clinical practice but relatively unprepared for the true psychiatric emergency. Such emergencies are too infrequent for most of us to experience a real sense of competence. On the other hand, emergency room psychiatrists as well as residents and other trainees have long wished for a truly comprehensive textbook that would cover the spectrum of emergency psychiatry. This book is just such a definitive and comprehensive volume for the specialist, while at the same time a clear, succinct, and comprehensive refe...
