Arts - Therapies - Communication European Arts Therapy

Stipulation of a present actual position of Art Therapy, however, inevitably leads to further thoughts about ongoing development. Everything required for the theoretical-practical founding of a European Art Therapy, as discipline still has to be done, including construction of a communicative bridge to partners in other continents or countries. This development work has two strands of development. One follows a more theoretical direction with European Art Therapy as a research and teaching subject as an objective in view. The other is directed more towards practical fieldwork, which, in turn, can lead to the establishment of funds of experience as well as quantitative and qualitative investigations and thus to theoretical-methodical statements. In the contributions on hand both connections pervade. Naturally the individual articles in this collection do not fully expound the volume of art therapeutic work throughout Europe but they are a source of information and inspiration for the user from theory and / or practice, who can then find his particular niche with his own specific interests within the cross-section and subsequently continue the discourse spatially and objectively.

This book is aimed at psychodramatists and psychotherapists in general, but especially those just starting out in psychotherapy, complete with tips and advice. In easy-to-follow language, the author addresses some theoretical questions related to bipersonal psychodrama; for example, the idea that the "psychodrama a deux", as Moreno called this modality of psychotherapy, isn't a minor therapeutic approach or necessarily just a preparation for group therapy, as many authors presume. For Rosa Cukier, bipersonal psychodrama is a very rich and adaptable tool, but it demands creative innovations and additions to classical group psychodrama techniques. She uses cushions or other objects from around the room to play complementary roles, and then the use of the classical technique. She defines each technique, aims to clarify the directions, and gives examples of their correct usage following Morenian psychodrama from the warming up phase, through the dramatization, and on until the final sharing phase.

Arts Therapists, Refugees and Migrants

The legal and humanitarian response to the world's growing population of refugees and migrants has created more awareness of not only the physical but also the psychological needs of displaced peoples. Refugees are often the forgotten victims of war violence and political upheaval, subjected to the traumatic loss of family and home and the consequent deterioration of cultural identity as they seek asylum in other countries. Ditty Dokter is joined by contributors from a number of multicultural backgrounds, in a volume examining the issues surrounding intercultural arts therapies as a means of working with clients who are refugees and migrants. The role of art, music, dance, and drama in healing the effects of trauma and restoring the sense of cultural and personal identity is discussed, emphasising the need for sensitivity to cultural differences in practice. The ultimate aim is to promote more awareness of intercultural issues in an attempt to build a broader framework for arts therapy practice.
