Handwritten records of the meetings of the Smithfield, Utah, City Council from May 20, 1868 to Aug. 9, 1893. Includes minutes from the first election selecting George Barber as mayor, and initial meeting of the new mayor and city councilmen elected. The city council meetings generally conducted business with regard to property and land disputes, surveying, water rights, building rights, taxes, reports of financial conditions, bills for payment, disbursements, auditor's reports, budgets, and the election of Samuel Roskelley, Preston T. Moorhead, James Mack, and Samuel Nelson. On several occasions the council authorized investigations to see if rumors of smallpox or diphtheria were true. Appropriations for a Smithfield representative committee to the World's Fair in 1893 are also mentioned. Vol. 2 includes rolls of councilmen with year of election and meeting attendance.
