This book is a collection of selected research papers from the 14th conference of the Transportation Planning and Implementation Methodologies for Developing Countries (TPMDC). It covers the broad area of transportation planning and policy, pavement design and engineering, emerging technologies in transportation, traffic management, operations, and safety, and sustainable mobility in transportation. The book aims to provide deeper understanding of the transportation issues, solutions, and learnings from the implemented solutions. This book will be of best interest for academicians, researchers, policy makers, and practitioners.
This book presents the select proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Transportation Infrastructure Projects: Conception to Execution (TIPCE 2022) and emphasizes the understanding of transportation infrastructure projects being conceptualized, designed, and executed so as to bring the desired development in the focused area. It comprises case studies from the transportation sector, construction industries, consulting agencies, and academia. These studies present the bottlenecks experienced during the implementation of the projects, from their conceptualization to their execution and the corrective measures that were incorporated to finish the work. The book will be a valuable reference for beginners, researchers, and professionals interested in construction planning and technology, infrastructure engineering, highway engineering, traffic and transportation planning and systems.
Sustainable Concrete Materials and Structures focuses on recent research progress and innovations in this important field of research. All aspects of the technical routes to sustainable concrete and structures are discussed in detail. These include recent findings on sustainable concrete production and structural design and construction. Low-carbon cement, sustainable concrete mix design, durability, and structural applications are discussed in detail. Emphasis is placed on how to bring some of the innovations in concrete technology closer to market. Information on techno-economic analysis, economy of scale, and the supply chain of sustainable concrete is also addressed. The book will be an ...
This book (in three volumes) comprises the proceedings of the Fifth Conference of Transportation Research Group of India (CTRG2019) focusing on emerging opportunities and challenges in the field of transportation of people and freight. The contents of the book include characterization of conventional and innovative pavement materials, operational effects of road geometry, user impact of multimodal transport projects, spatial analysis of travel patterns, socio-economic impacts of transport projects, analysis of transportation policy and planning for safety and security, technology-enabled models of mobility services, etc. This book will be beneficial to researchers, educators, practitioners and policymakers alike.
In a world of earthquakes, tsunamis, and hurricanes, it is evident that emergency response plans are crucial to solve problems, overcome challenges, and restore and improve communities affected by such negative events. Although the necessity for quick and efficient aid is understood, researchers and professionals continue to strive for the best practices and methodologies to properly handle these significant events. The Handbook of Research on Environmental Policies for Emergency Management and Public Safety is a pivotal reference source for the latest research findings on the examination of environmental policies and its interface with management and public safety from various country's perspectives, its local impacts and global lessons. Featuring extensive coverage on relevant areas, such as public-private partnership, disaster management, and natural resource management, this publication is an ideal resource for academicians, practitioners, and researchers interested in understanding the effects of environmental policies on emergency management.
Covering a wide array of topics on the status and challenges of organic farming, including production, nutrient management, plant protection, processing methods, organic production, policy issues, etc., in food crops, vegetable crops, and sugarcane, this new volume addresses how organic farming is an attractive option toward the reduction of toxic emissions produced from traditional agriculture and how it can help mitigate the deleterious effects on crops from climate change. With a focus primarily on India but with application elsewhere in the agricultural world, the volume looks at organic crop production in conjunction with ensuring rural livelihood security, maintaining and enhancing soil health, sugarcane productivity and sugar industry by-products, nutritional management in system-based organic farming, the management of pests in organic farming, the use of vermiculture as an important method for organic farming, and much more. The volume also looks at the issues and challenges in the marketing of organic produce.
During the latest ten years, fast breeding technologies have been effectively applied in crop trait modification, gene mapping, and functional genomics study, which include haploid induction based on inducer lines, genome editing mediated by CRISPR/Cas9, and molecular selection based on special markers. By using CRISPR/Cas9, many crop traits such as disease resistance, good quality, early maturity, high grain weight, male sterile, and pre-harvest sprouting tolerance have been modified in a few generations. Particularly, new haploid inducer lines have been created in maize, rice, Arabidopsis, wheat, alfalfa, foxtail millet, tomato, and Brassica oleracea by editing MTL (PLA1/NLD), DMP, and PLD3 genes via CRISPR/Cas9 for largely producing haploid grains directly. Additionally, new types of molecular markers have been developed and used to trace agronomically important traits for easily screening and locating gene position on chromosomes for gene cloning, except for generally employed makers like SSR, SNP, and EST.
