Entomologi
Entomologi adalah ilmu yang mempelajari serangga. Kata Entomologi berasal dari Bahasa Yunani, yaitu entomon yang berarti makhluk (serangga atau insekta). Insekta itu sendiri berasal dari kata insecare (Bahasa Latin) yang berarti potongan, yang memang hewan ini nampak sebagai potongan-potongan atau hewan berbuku-buku. Istilah lain untuk serangga adalah hexapoda yang berasal dari Bahasa Yunani hex (enam) + podos (kaki), karena serangga memang memiliki kaki atau tungkai sejumlah enam atau tiga pasang. Dari beragam peristilahan tentang serangga tersebut, nama ilmu tentang serangga ini lebih dipakai adalah entomologi daripada heksapodologi maupun insektologi.
