John Guy (b.ca1575-1628) was the son of Thomas Guy, shoemaker and freeman (admitted in 1562) of the city of Bristol, England. John was admitted to the liberties of the city in 1596. By 1599, he was recorded as being a merchant. He married Ann and by 1606 his son James was buried in St. Stephen's Church, Bristol. He and others obtained a charter bearing the Great Seal in 1610 for settlement of Newfoundland. He was appointed the Overseas manager of the company of Adventurers and Planters of the City of London and Bristol for the Colony of Plantation in Newfoundland.
