This book constitutes the refereed post-conference proceedings of the Second International Conference on Pan-African Intelligence and Smart Systems, PAAISS 2022, which was held in Dakar, Senegal, in November 2022. The 27 revised full papers presented were carefully selected from 70 submissions. The theme of PAAISS 2022 was: IoT and Enabling Smart System Technologies, Special Topics of African Interest, Artificial Intelligence Theory and Methods, Artificial Intelligence Applications in Medicine, Remote sensing and AI in Agriculture, AI applications and Smart Systems technologies, Affective Computing, Intelligent Transportation systems.
The aim of the book is to provide latest research findings, innovative research results, methods and development techniques from both theoretical and practical perspectives related to the emerging areas of information networking and applications. Networks of today are going through a rapid evolution and there are many emerging areas of information networking and their applications. Heterogeneous networking supported by recent technological advances in low power wireless communications along with silicon integration of various functionalities such as sensing, communications, intelligence and actuations are emerging as a critically important disruptive computer class based on a new platform, n...
This book introduces the theoretical fundamentals for modeling queues in discrete-time, and the basic procedures for developing queuing models in discrete-time. There is a focus on applications in modern telecommunication systems. It presents how most queueing models in discrete-time can be set up as discrete-time Markov chains. Techniques such as matrix-analytic methods (MAM) that can used to analyze the resulting Markov chains are included. This book covers single node systems, tandem system and queueing networks. It shows how queues with time-varying parameters can be analyzed, and illustrates numerical issues associated with computations for the discrete-time queueing systems. Optimal control of queues is also covered. Applied Discrete-Time Queues targets researchers, advanced-level students and analysts in the field of telecommunication networks. It is suitable as a reference book and can also be used as a secondary text book in computer engineering and computer science. Examples and exercises are included.
Queueing theory applications can be discovered in many walks of life including; transportation, manufacturing, telecommunications, computer systems and more. However, the most prevalent applications of queueing theory are in the telecommunications field. Queueing Theory for Telecommunications: Discrete Time Modelling of a Single Node System focuses on discrete time modeling and illustrates that most queueing systems encountered in real life can be set up as a Markov chain. This feature is very unique because the models are set in such a way that matrix-analytic methods are used to analyze them. Queueing Theory for Telecommunications: Discrete Time Modelling of a Single Node System is the mos...
In recent decades, metrology—an accurate and precise technology of high quality for automotive engines—has garnered a great deal of scientific interest due to its unique advanced soft engineering techniques in design and diagnostics. Used in a variety of scientific applications, these techniques are now widely regarded as safer, more efficient, and more effective than traditional ones. This book compiles and details the cutting-edge research in science and engineering from the Egyptian Metrology Institute (National Institute for Standards) that is revolutionizing advanced dimensional techniques through the development of coordinate and surface metrology.
This volume includes extended and revised versions of a set of selected papers from the International Conference on Electric and Electronics (EEIC 2011) , held on June 20-22 , 2011, which is jointly organized by Nanchang University, Springer, and IEEE IAS Nanchang Chapter. The objective of EEIC 2011 Volume 1 is to provide a major interdisciplinary forum for the presentation of new approaches from Electronics and Signal Processing, to foster integration of the latest developments in scientific research. 133 related topic papers were selected into this volume. All the papers were reviewed by 2 program committee members and selected by the volume editor Prof. Wensong Hu. We hope every participant can have a good opportunity to exchange their research ideas and results and to discuss the state of the art in the areas of the Electronics and Signal Processing.
THE STORY BRIDGE HELPS A COMMUNITY (ORGANIZATION, CORPORATION) MOVE FROM BEING A COLLECTION OF ALIENATED INDIVIDUALS TO A COHESIVE FORCE FOR COMMITTED ACTION. THROUGH THIS GROUP PROCESS, PEOPLE MOVE FROM A FOCUS ON "I" TO A FOCUS ON "WE." THEY ARE DRAWN BY THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE PERSONAL STORIES, AND HEAR THE SAME FROM NEIGHBORS AND COLLEAGUES. THROUGH THE FUN AND THE WORK OF SHARING STORIES, STRANGERS BECOME FAMILY. ATTACHMENT, RELATIONSHIP, AND COMMITMENT GROW BETWEEN PEOPLE WHO CROSS THE BRIDGE TOGETHER TO A NEW VISION OF THEIR PLACE.
This is a special issue of ECS Transactions published by ECS in memory of Volker Lehmann and Vitali Parkhutik, two key scientists in the field of porous semiconductors who recently passed away. Topics in this issue aim at a more detailed understanding of growth mechanisms and the physical and chemical properties of all types of porous semiconductors. The papers address research in the various sub-fields of porous semiconductors such as semiconductor electrochemistry, deposition into pores, matrix materials, optical spectroscopy and transdisciplinary approaches to the topic as well as work relevant to the formation of advanced materials such as, for example, porous silicon, matrix composites and nanoclusters and their applications such as chemical and biological sensors.
