The Council of Europe's work on history teaching in secondary schools has three main thrusts: curriculum development, textbooks and teaching materials, and teacher training, which should take into account societal developments and the cultural needs of coming generations. This pilot study is the first comparative study on the structures of initial training for history teachers to be carried out in several European countries. Its aim is to provide information that will raise the level of professionalism not only of history teaching, but also of teacher training.--Publisher's description.

Novelist-critic Leopoldo Alas's reputation suffered neglect and silent reproval during much of the twentieth century, especially under the Franco regime, but his reputation has now achieved classic status in Spain. Clearly related to this is the great increase in the number of translations - Julian Barnes called La Regenta 'the foreign classic tardily discovered'. This bibliography picks up where the first one left off in 1984. It is divided into primary material and secondary material. Primary material includes: Anthologies and Selections; Criticism; Novels; Short Story Collections; Plays; Correspondence; Prologues; Reprints; Translations; and Miscellaneous, with two new categories: autograph manuscripts and iconography.
This book is a critical introduction for English-speaking philosophers to the main lines of thought of José Gaos, an outstanding twentieth-century philosopher who was active first in Spain and then in Mexico. The study traces philosophical methods and cultural themes in Spain, the European continent in general, and Latin America. The author skillfully applies phenomenology to the deep questions raised by Gaos concerning being, time, language, and meaning. Peter Cocozzella has painstakingly translated this ground-breaking study from Italian. Myra Moss and Giovanni Gullace have added useful introductory material. A comprehensive bibliography is included. Values in Italian Philosophy (VIP) offers the English-speaking world outstanding works by classic and contemporary Italian thinkers as well as books on Italian philosophy.
The physical and affective closeness of certain persons who have given us our biological being, condition and determine our way of being human, as only with the help of others can se learn how to become persons. The family, given the importance of the first experiences, becomes the first school of humanity and humanization. The book wishes to give an answer to a great need, felt by educators, teachers, professors, parents, mothers and children, as is the formation or present education in the family environment. The social changes are so rapid and the family models so diverse that it becomes urgent and necessary to offer contributions and orientations in this regard, in this moment of crisis. The family counsellors and other professionals will find appropriate orientations here to two big challenges of today's family: to teach how to live and to share life in a more and more plural society. Different specialists and different Spanish universities, from their knowledge and experience, have given a response to these themes and help the reader to understand and focus the different family models that exist currently in our society.
