Corneal transplantation has been performed with increasing success for more than 100 years. In the last 20 years, standards, outcomes and developments in the field of corneal transplantation and eye banking have been discussed at the annual meetings of the European Eye Bank Association (EEBA) to share and promote good practice and guarantee a high level of safety for the recipients. The EEBA standards for donor selection and eye banking provide professional advice and guidance to eye banks and corneal surgeons.This book highlights the history and development of eye banking and all significant steps including the donation, processing and distribution of corneas for transplantation. Additional contributions on the sclera, amnion and retinal pigment epithelium provide further insights into ocular surgery and the future potential for transplantation. Die Hornhauttransplantation hat sich seit der ersten erfolgreichen Keratoplastik im Jahre 1905 zu einem Routineeingriff entwickelt, trotzdem ist die Bereitstellung von Spendermaterial in Deutschland noch unzureichend. Zur Lösung dieses wesentlichen Problems soll die Etablierung von Hornhautbanken beitragen. Das vorliegende Buch gibt hierfür eine Anleitung. Gleichzeitig ist es als Nachschlagewerk für bereits auf dem Gebiet des "Eyebankings" Erfahrene gedacht. Im ersten deutschsprachigen Werk zu diesem Thema ist es den Herausgebern gelungen, für die Beantwortung der verschiedenen Fragestellungen- von gesetzlichen Grundlagen der Hornhauttransplantation über technische Abläufe bei der Gewinnung und Konservierung von Transplantaten bis hin zur Finanzierung von Hornhautbanken- kompetente Autoren aus der "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Hornhautbanken" zu gewinnen.

Thirty years ago, our attention was drawn to the alphabetical incom itances in strabismus. As an elevation in adduction is the most frequent incomitance, we decided to start treating these incomitances. A weak ening procedure of the inferior oblique muscle seemed indicated. How ever, since we wanted to prevent a torsional overcorrection with a head tilt, we displaced the scleral insertion of the oblique muscle towards the equator of the globe.
