Economic Analysis of International Law

Through original and incisive contributions from leading scholars, this book applies economics and other rational choice methods to an understanding of public international law, providing a bird’s eye view of some of its most fundamental elements from the perspective of economics. The chapters cover a range of topics, beginning with the building blocks of the nation state and continuing with the sources and the enforcement of international law and its various applications and extensions. The application of economic analysis to public international law is still in its formative stages and Economic Analysis of International Law provides a useful overview, as well as setting directions for new research. This volume provides a path through recent literature while identifying new areas and issues for research, making it an invaluable resource for scholars of public international law.

Landholders of Northeastern New York, 1739-1802

This work forms a directory of all participants in all land sales and mortgage agreements in northeastern New York between 1739 and 1802. The area covered includes all land within the present-day counties of Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Warren, and Washington. The first part identifies original grantees, persons awarded land in the area between 1739 and 1775, and provided is the date of award, name of grant, present town of grant's location, acreage, and grantee's name. The second part, and by far the largest, identifies about 9,000 landholders--grantees, grantors, mortgagees and mortgagors--whose land records were filed between 1772 and 1802 in the deed and mortgage books of Washington, Clinton, or Essex counties. In the various entries will be found the names of all persons engaged in land transactions, the date of the transaction, the place of residence of each of the principals, and the volume and page of the original source book.

International Investment Law and Soft Law

International Investment Law and Soft Law

  • Categories: Law

This important book examines the development of soft law instruments in international investment law and the feasibility of a 'codification' of the present state of this field of international economic law. It draws together the views of international experts on the use of soft law in international law generally and in discrete fields such as WTO, commercial, and environmental law. The book assesses whether investment law has sufficiently coalesced over the last 50 years to be 'codified' and focuses particularly on topical issues such as most-favoured-nation treatment and expropriation. This timely book will appeal to academics interested in the development of international law and legal theory, to those working in investment law, Government investment treaty negotiators and arbitration practitioners.
