Confirmatory Factor Analysis for Applied Research, Second Edition

This accessible book has established itself as the go-to resource on confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) for its emphasis on practical and conceptual aspects rather than mathematics or formulas. Detailed, worked-through examples drawn from psychology, management, and sociology studies illustrate the procedures, pitfalls, and extensions of CFA methodology. The text shows how to formulate, program, and interpret CFA models using popular latent variable software packages (LISREL, Mplus, EQS, SAS/CALIS); understand the similarities ...

No One Cheers for Goliath chronicles the obstacles overcome and the leadership lessons learned by Timothy J. Brown from his journey as a first generation African American college student to academic dean. As the son of a steel worker, his path took him from the small steel mill town of Coatesville, PA through his improbable ascension into leadership positions in higher education. His story, however, started inauspiciously as he landed on academic probation after his first semester at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. He would rebound to earn two degrees in Communication Studies from West Chester University, and complete his Ph.D. in Rhetoric at Ohio University. From Ohio, he would tak...

When a third-grade teacher starts the new school year, she's excited to meet her students. But Timothy Brown is on her roster and he could be her worst nightmare. He has trouble reading, his behavior is bothersome, and he wants the starring role in the school play. Timothy Brown is a Bad Boy, by author and former principal, Mary Page-Clay, is based on a combination of real-life incidents that occurred during her career as a classroom teacher. Timothy Brown will challenge preconceived notions to promote acceptance and understanding between students and teachers. With a study guide to help facilitate small group discussions, educators are encouraged to share their personal experiences, identify opportunities for improvement, and build upon their shared strengths to teach children who challenge them.

The proliferation of mobile media in recent years is an international phenomenon, with billions of devices sold annually. Mobile communications are now moving beyond individualized voice to mass media content--text, voice, sound, images, and even video. This will create new types of content that allow media companies and users to interact in new ways. There is a strong interest from the media and telecom industries in what manner of applications and content can be distributed in that fashion, and at what cost. To answer these questions, the book provides 18 chapters from internationally renowned authors. They identify likely types of content such as news, entertainment, peer-to-peer, and loc...

Proceedings of the International Workshop on Applications of Neural Networks to Telecommunications

The world is witnessing the rapid evolution of its own nervous system by an unparalleled growth in communication technology. Like the evolution of the nervous systems in animals, this growth is being driven by a survival-of-the-fittest-mechanism. In telecommunications, the entities that fuel this growth are companies and nations who compete with each other. Companies with superior information systems can outrun and outsmart others because they serve their customers better. On the threshold of an explosion in the variety, speed and usefulness of telecommunication networks, neural network researchers can make important contributions to this emerging new telecommunications infrastructure. The first International Workshop on Applications of Neural Networks to Telecommunications (IWANNT) was planned in response to the telecommunications industry's needs for new adaptive technologies. This workshop featured 50 talks and posters that were selected by an organizing committee of experts in both telecommunications and neural networks. These proceedings will also be available on-line in an electronic format providing multimedia figures, cross-referencing, and annotation.
