Akcja powieści rozgrywa się w Warszawie, wiosną 1890 roku. Trwają przygotowania do obchodu święta 1. Maja. Autorka prezentuje na kartach powieści przedstawicieli różnych warstw społecznych ówczesnej Warszawy: burżuazję, drobnomieszczaństwo, inteligencję, młodzież o poglądach radykalnych lub radykalizujących, a wreszcie warszawski proletariat. Trzytomowy cykl opisujący historię rodziny Martenów na tle życia społeczno-politycznego w Warszawie końca XIX wieku. Irena Krzywicka – pisarka, tłumaczka, publicystka, propagatorka działań na rzecz kontroli urodzeń, powszechności, edukacji seksualnej i antykoncepcji. W swej twórczości nie stroniła od tematów związanych z seksualnością, co naraziło ją na ataki ze strony środowisk prawicowych oraz niektórych pisarzy. Podczas wojny współpracowała z AK, w latach 50. została radną miasta Warszawy. W 1962 roku wyjechała z kraju: najpierw do Szwajcarii, następnie do Francji, gdzie mieszkała już do końca swego życia. W 1992 roku opublikowała swoją ostatnią, a zarazem najbardziej popularną, książkę - „Wyznania gorszycielki".

Computational Homology
Homology is a powerful tool used by mathematicians to study the properties of spaces and maps that are insensitive to small perturbations. This book uses a computer to develop a combinatorial computational approach to the subject. The core of the book deals with homology theory and its computation. Following this is a section containing extensions to further developments in algebraic topology, applications to computational dynamics, and applications to image processing.
