Analiza algunas experiencias espanolas y su proceso de integracion en la Union Monetaria Europea, para continuar con Argentina, Chile y Brasil. Contiene referencias a la situacion general en America Latina y el Caribe y en particular al Mercosur.

Regional Policy, Economic Growth and Convergence
Many European, Latin American and Asian countries have experience with regional policies aiming to reduce regional disparities in GDP per capita and/or to develop problem regions helping to recover from its GDP decrease. Spain represents, without any doubt, a very rich and interesting case-study regarding regional problems and regional development policies. The aim of this book is not only to analyze the regional policies practiced, their objectives, instruments and effects, but to provide an in-depth analysis on the impact of investments in infrastructure, human capital and other factors, as well as the advances accomplished in terms of productivity, convergence and regional competitiveness. The book particularly wants to impart knowledge, which can be useful for other countries’ policy makers, as well as for academics, researchers and consultants. The contributions selected have been written by prestigious Spanish academics, most of them also having practical experience in the field.

El libro recoge un conjunto de aportaciones novedosas de profesores universitarios, de los cuatro puntos cardinales de España, agrupados en cuatro ámbitos básicos: política económica, economía regional, economía de los servicios y economía española y europea, que rinden homenaje a la labor docente e investigadora del profesor Juan Ramón Cuadrado Roura en sus más de cincuenta años de dedicación a la universidad, pionera además en temas regionales y de servicios. No obstante, pese a esta característica de libro homenaje, la obra presenta mayoritariamente trabajos especializados en los cuatro ámbitos referidos y, por tanto, están elaborados con rigor y muchos de ellos además con un importante aparato analítico. Por ello, pueden resultar una referencia importante para los estudiosos de temas de política económica, economía regional y de los servicios. Sin embargo, lo anterior no impide que sean asequibles para cualquier lector interesado en temas de actualidad económica con independencia de si están o no formados en la misma.
