Echinococcosis is an important zoonotic helminth disease all over the world, since some forms may be fatal. The most common species leading to echinococcosis are Echinococcus granulosus, Echinococcus multilocularis, Echinococcus vogeli, and Echinococcus oligarthrus. Although it has been known for many years, it keeps its interesting features. In this book, we aimed to update our knowledge on echinococcosis, focusing on current research advances, new horizons for drug therapy, and surgical management including surgical complications. I cordially believe that this book on echinococcosis will also motivate the future scientists to accomplish more studies on this issue.
Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) is a diverse group of communicable diseases that prevail in tropical and subtropical conditions in 149 countries. NTDs affect more than one billion people and cost developing economies billions of dollars every year. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), NTDs mainly affect populations living in poverty, without adequate sanitation, and in close contact with infectious vectors, domestic animals, and livestock. Migration, as well as climate change and variability, are key factors in NTD prevalence. Therefore, NTDs deserve more study. Recently, viruses transmitted by vectors (arboviruses) that affect not only people living in the tropics, but also travelers and migrating populations, have been causing epidemics. Examples of these viruses include Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika, Mayaro, and encephalitis viruses. These viruses emerge and reemerge in multiple regions of the world, as occurred in the Americas recently (2013-2017) with Chikungunya and Zika. This book aims to update the significant epidemiological and clinical research of NTDs in many aspects with a multinational perspective.

Leishmaniasis is a vector-borne, parasitic disease with tremendous variety in presentation, biology, and epidemiology. Any book on this disease must acknowledge the nearly impossible task of providing an exhaustive account of leishmaniasis simply because the epidemiology of the disease is so very complex. This book addresses some of this variety with chapters on the epidemiology of leishmaniasis in North Africa, Central America, and South America. The purpose of the book is not to specifically address diagnosis and treatment of the disease, but rather to provide a sample of the differing epidemiologies of leishmaniasis that occur due to variations in local habitats; the presence of different vectors, reservoirs, and agents; and the wide variety of cultures in which this disease occurs.
Optical methods of measurements are the most sensitive techniques of noncontact investigations, and at the same time, they are fast as well as accurate which increases reproducibility of observed results. In recent years, the importance of optical interferometry methods for research has dramatically increased, and applications range from precise surface testing to finding extrasolar planets. This book covers various aspects of optical interferometry including descriptions of novel apparatuses and methods, application interferometry for studying biological objects, surface qualities, materials characterization, and optical testing. The book includes a series of chapters in which experts share recent progress in interferometry through original research and literature reviews.
Endometriosis is a condition that effects 10% to 15% of women of reproductive age and in its more advanced stages it may be an indicator of infertility. This unique book reviews the whole topic of Endometriosis starting from a review of the epidemiological evidence through the sociology of the disease to diagnosis, medical and surgical treatments, management and a discussion of new medical options and future trends in the disease area. It covers pathogenesis, current and future diagnostic methods, therapeutic alternatives; and discusses fertility preservation, cancer possibilities, and quality of life in patients. The book also examines new medical treatments for the condition including Statins, Aromatase Inhibitors and Antiagiogenic Agents and reviews new delivery technologies for classical drugs and provides a synopsis of the new drug pipeline for the condition.
