Fulan and Zion were playing Chess when Nas arrived with shocking news. What was the news all about? Nas was planning to travel to Besly City. After much debate, they agreed to move to the city along with him since they felt their living at Soda Lake wasnt getting any better, and Besly was rumored to be a land of milk and honey. But was Besly really a land of milk and honey? While in the city trying to make ends meet, they met Sayil, and Sayil introduced them to his sister, Afeni. Afeni, though a classical girl, fell in love with Fulan at first sight. But Sayil detested Fulan so much that he would go extra mile to detach his sister from Fulan permanently. Elections have been central to regime collapse in Nigeria because they neither passed the test of citizens' acceptability nor electoral neutrality. They always pushed the country to a dangerous brink which she has often survived after serious constitutional and political bruises. The general election of 1964 rocked the delicate balance of the country resulting in the military coup of January 15, 1966 and a thirty month civil war. The subsequent effort of the military at restructuring the country did not go far enough to win the civic confidence of the people. The military availed itself of another opportunity of tinkering with the system in 1993. However, it demonstrated that it was not immu...

This book showcases the important, but often understudied, work of Nigerian women playwrights. As in many spheres of life in Nigeria, in literature and other creative arts the voices of men dominate, and the work of women has often been sidelined. However, Nigerian women playwrights have made important contributions to the development of drama in Nigeria, not just by presenting female identities and inequalities but by vigorously intervening in wider social and political issues. This book draws on perspectives from culture, language, politics, theory, orality and literature, to shine a light on the engaged creativity of women playwrights. From the trail blazing but more traditional contributions of Zulu Sofola, through to contemporary postcolonial work by Tess Osonye Onwueme, Julie Okoh, and Sefi Atta, to name just a few, the book shows the rich variety of work being produced by female Nigerian dramatists. This, the first major collection devoted to Nigerian women playwrights, will be an important resource for scholars of African theatre and performance, literature and women’s studies.
"Wedding Anniversary is a play 70 percent of women and girls worldwide can relate with. It is an interesting story of love and hate that cuts across countries and cultures. The shocking intrigues women go through are illustrated in this play. It is bigger than me" (Islammiyah Saudique). Married as a virgin to the first man who won her heart, Teemah never thought marriage to her prince charming could be an agonizing experience. Kicked, tortured, humiliated, and raped until she was pushed to the wall. Her heart could no longer hold her pain. Does love need to hurt? When love hurts, who pays? And what's the price? Despite being a pathetic story of what women go through, Wedding Anniversary also tells the humorous story of Bella and her lazy fianc, Donald. Rihanna, Teemah's friend is beautiful, full of life, single, and searching. How best to plan a wedding? You may need to consult Rihanna. And what does she have in common with Biodun, Teemah's brother? Bad breath? No. They are both single and ready to mingle. This is a hard-to-put-down play. Get ready to laugh, get ready to be angry, get ready to be educated, and get ready to be entertained.
