Description: Women in India gives the reader an overflow of the Indian women from ancient times to the present day. The first part deals with the historical status of the women to the middle of the nineteenth century when India became a colony of the British crown. The second part deals with the native Indian organizations which emerged in the first half of the nineteenth century to meet the challenge of the British missionaries. Then the focus is shifted to the Five-Year Plans in the post-Independence period with special reference to programmes for women. The third part of the book deals with a history of women organizations in India from the early nineteenth century to the present day with a special coverage of the All India Women Conference or AIWC. The conclusions reveal the personal observations of the author who was raised in India and migrated to the U.S.A. in 1960 at the age of twenty-one. Her cross-cultural background has enabled her to provide a unique perspective about the present position of Indian Women.
Indian Women Empowerment from Harappa-Mohenjo Daro Period to Modern Time
This is a study of Indian women from prehistoric times to the present. The sources for this are Harappa and Mohenjo Daro archeological sources, Vedas, Upanishads, Epics, and Dharmashastras. They are different as authorities content, and time of composition. It is difficult to state the exact time of the works and the exact time to which the narrated events belong. Only approximate age can be said. Because of this difficulty, a general account of women’s status, position, and social conditions which influenced them over a few centuries is given. The study covers the period from Harappa and Mohenjo Daro civilization, Aryan, Post Aryan, Vedic, Upanishad, Sutra and Epic periods.

The Cold War in South Asia
The Cold War in South Asia provides the first comprehensive and transnational history of Anglo-American relations with South Asia during a seminal period in the history of the Indian Subcontinent, between independence in the late 1940s, and the height of the Cold War in the late 1960s. Drawing upon significant new evidence from British, American, Indian and Eastern bloc archives, the book re-examines how and why the Cold War in South Asia evolved in the way that it did, at a time when the national leaderships, geopolitical outlooks and regional aspirations of India, Pakistan and their superpower suitors were in a state of considerable flux. The book probes the factors which encouraged the governments of Britain and the United States to work so closely together in South Asia during the two decades after independence, and suggests what benefits, if any, Anglo-American intervention in South Asia's affairs delivered, and to whom.
