From the Virtual Sphere to Physical Space
This volume provides the nexus between language and politics in Nigeria, the world’s most populous Black nation, where civilian rule is slowly but steadily morphing into deliberative democracy. Using a combination of traditional and new models, the contributions adopt linguistic and literary perspectives to analyse and discuss different socio-discursive engagements in the Nigerian democratic experience. New approaches from Digital Humanities show the impact of the ongoing digital revolution and developments in the Humanities. More traditional papers offer compelling insights on both the discursive and non-discursive habits of the contemporary Nigerian political actors in an effort to more fruitfully profile their identity while defining their attitude and level of commitment to delivering ‘dividends of democracy’. Obscurity and Clarity in the Law
This book explores the intricate and multi-dimensional conception of clarity and obscurity in the law. It presents and examines the most recent research and theories, giving practical guidance on how to avoid obscurity in legal drafting and its impact on legal interpretation. The book is aimed at a multidisciplinary audience and seeks to promote an interdisciplinary debate on clarity, law and language, calling for the moving of clarity beyond the study of plain language. The aims of the book are thus two fold. The first is to critically reach a nexus between the disciplines of law and language with respect to the debates on clarity in legal discourse. The second is to achieve an international perspective on the issue, drawing from a wide range of legal and political contexts.
Aspects of Cameroon Englishes
In spite of the fact that World Englishes theorizing projects a monolithic picture of English in Cameroon by focusing mostly on Cameroon Anglophone English (generally called Cameroon English), this book argues, with empirical evidence, that Cameroon harbours different world Englishes that display different realities and different describable aspects and trends, a complicated sociolinguistic scenario that challenges nation-based World Englishes paradigms. The book will be indispensable for different stakeholders, including scholars of World Englishes, general linguists, sociolinguists, creolists, phonologists, syntacticians, pedagogues, and students. In addition to describing the sociolinguistic and typological hallmarks of the different world Englishes that hold sway in Cameroon and highlighting their variety-specific peculiarities, the book further evaluates the plausibility and applicability of nation-based World Englishes paradigms in Cameroon, a country whose complex sociolinguistic landscape is comparable only to that of South Africa.

It looks at how the principles of language use can be beneficial to clarifying legal issues, its twelve chapters (together with the Introduction) offering a wide spectrum of the latest approaches to the area of legal pragmatics.
