The coronavirus pandemic has upended local, national, and global food systems, and put the Sustainable Development Goals further out of reach. But lessons from the world’s response to the pandemic can help address future shocks and contribute to food system change. In the 2021 Global Food Policy Report, IFPRI researchers and other food policy experts explore the impacts of the pandemic and government policy responses, particularly for the poor and disadvantaged, and consider what this means for transforming our food systems to be healthy, resilient, efficient, sustainable, and inclusive. Chapters in the report look at balancing health and economic policies, promoting healthy diets and nutr...
Hunger and Health explores the multiple relationships between hunger and poor health, and how they affect the growth of individuals, physiologically and psychologically, constraining the development of nations both socially and economically. Examining the profound effect that hunger has on health, including disease prevention and treatment, it gives special attention to access to quality food and healthcare, in particular for the marginalized and poor. It also identifies critical junctures in the human life cycle when the benefits of reducing hunger and improving poor health have a profound impact. It demonstrates how aligning of hunger and health interventions can offer proven solutions that reach those most in need, and contains compelling evidence which confirms that hunger and poor health are solvable problems today. It encourages those involved in policy, programming and advocacy to take action to address some of the most urgent hunger and health problems. Essential reading for anyone concerned about eliminating hunger. Published with the UN World Food Programme.

"Burtt offers an account of how an invasion might have unfolded and its consequences, by drawing on parallel events at other times and places...Definitely worth a read." â The NYMAS Review When writing his memoirs after World War II, German Generalfeldmarschall Albert Kesselring stated, âItalyâs missing her chance to occupy the island [of Malta] at the start of hostilities will go down in history as a fundamental blunder.â Itâs easy to see why this tiny 95 square mile island held such a prominent place in the warâs Mediterranean Theater. Located almost halfway between the British bases of Gibraltar and Alexandria, Egypt, and just 60 miles south of Sicily, her ai...
Taken from a wide variety of sources, this is a unique and detailed compilation of German, Italian, Japanese, Romanian, Finnish and Vichy-French submarine successes and claims against Allied and Neutral ships in every theatre of the war at sea. Each entry gives the date of the attack; the nationality, name and commander of the attacking submarine; a map reference giving the precise location of the attack; and the type, tonnage, nationality and name of the ship sunk. Additional information, aimed at resolving controversial claims and clarifying hitherto inexact data, is also provided.
