An Encounter with “Diex” is one of the best short stories I have read in a long time. It begins with the fear, anxiety, and pressure so common among students these days. Vinayak is also an ‘average’ student but he puts up a brave fight to perform and live up to the expectations of his teachers and guardians. One day in a feverish delirium he gets into a dream experience. But was it really a dream? Vinayak portrays a world of light, magic, miracles, and astral beings as he perchance dives into a ‘portal’ of the unknown. There he meets Guardians of the divine order, sitting under the Luminous Sentinel tree. They tell him that he is the ‘chosen one’ for he is ‘special’. He h...

This collection of poems is a heartfelt exploration of love, loss, and longing set against the backdrop of familiar school environments that many of us hold dear in our memories. Each poem in this anthology is a reflection of emotions and experiences that resonate deeply with universal themes of love's fragility, the pain of letting go, and the haunting echoes of memories that linger long after the moments have passed. In this nouvelle, Detective Benjamin Sterling, gets involved in a crime investigation at the mysterious Willowbrook Manor. On getting a call from the widow of the mansion, Evelyn DuPont, whose husband Victor DuPont, was found murdered in his study, the investigation begins. The exploration leads the detective into a maze of crime and deceit that is hued with elements of ‘occult’ and forbidden family ‘curses’, a " forgotten chamber beneath the hearth, where the past and future lie intertwined”, as the author describes. The description of the ‘Shadows and the amulets’, the long dark tunnels and a looming spirit guide’, ‘the clandestine organization known as the "Keepers of the Veil,", and ‘the guardians and the keepers’ are entertaining and enjoyable for young readers. In the battle that ensues between the good and the evil forces of nature, the author keeps our hopes alive by allowing the ‘good’ to prevail over the malefic. I recommend this short story to young readers who would love to venture into a fantasy world of gothic structures and ancient history cloaked in cryptic supernatural mystery. A commendable piece of fantasy by a teenager, I would say.

The preface of this book sets the stage for a departure from the typical tragic love stories that often dominate literature. The author questions why celebrated love stories are so often marked by separation and tragedy, and proposes an alternative narrative: a tale of everlasting love and commitment between two individuals, Ella the artist and Lucas the architect. The narrative begins with a chance encounter between Ella and Lucas at the quaint café "Serenity Brews" in the picturesque town of Willowbrook. This encounter sparks a connection between them, leading to a series of meetings where they explore their shared interests in art, architecture, and the beauty of their surroundings. Thei...

Mathematics has always been my ‘weakness’. By weakness today I mean that I am in love with it. But I literally felt weak in my head also, when I was first introduced to – Calculus! Practice, practice, and more practice…there is no other way out. But often I felt if only I had a sort of handbook, a type of ‘dictionary’ (you know what I mean…) that would lay down the important features of the topic in a precise way, one after the other. I searched the internet and watched many videos on YouTube, and over and above I had one of the best Mathematics teachers in Army Public School, Kolkata: Mrs. M. Kathuria. With her help, I slowly tried to get a hang of this dreaded topic of Calculus. I am not sure, yet, how much I have succeeded, but I have managed to write this book. It is a brief description, a definition of sorts, of the main structure of the topic. I hope you guys like it and find it helpful. All the best!

When Does History Begin?

Focusing on important issues in Sikh religious identity and memory, Harjot Oberoi shows how premodern techniques of narrating the past and truth-telling in South Asia were deeply transformed by colonialism. Indian historiographical praxis has long been problematic. Al-Biruni, the eleventh-century polymath, was puzzled by how people in the subcontinent treated the protocols of history; it escaped his learning that Indian narrative constructions of the past were embedded in an intricate canon of poetical traditions and represented a radical departure from historical narratives in the Islamic, Sinic, and Greco-Roman worlds. Where others tended to search for "facts," people in South Asia looked ...
