In response to an inquiry from Fiske, Brett writes on behalf of Macmillan & Co. to say that a complete set of the Cambridge Shakespeare has become so scarce that "We do not know that the book is to be had at this moment in New York at any price," and it is nearly as impossible to find in London. Some of the work's volumes have long been out of print, and secondhand copies are commanding a very high price. The letter is on letterhead of Macmillan's New York office.
