Wade Guyton, Petzel, New York, 1.16.14 - 2.22.14 is the long-awaited volume that documents a one night only performance hosted at Petzel Gallery as part of Guyton’s seminal 2014 exhibition, in which the artist made long horizontal black paintings stretched to precisely fit the gallery walls. In 2007, Guyton showed a series of black paintings made with his Epson 9600 printer and covered the gallery’s concrete floor with a facsimile of his studio’s plywood floor. For the 2014 exhibition, he made five new works on linen using the same digital file from 2007, this time enlarged to accommodate the increased width of an Epson 11880. The Painting Factory
The first large-scale exhibition exploring contemporary abstract painting. In a major exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, director Jeffrey Deitch considers the reemergence of abstract painting among a broad range of artists whose work is as diverse conceptually as it is aesthetically. Looking back to Andy Warhol’s seminal Shadow, Oxidation, and Rorschach paintings as among the many touchstones that underwrite the contemporary impulse to abstraction, the show features artists such as Julie Mehretu, whose large-scale works densely layer maplike markings; Josh Smith, whose lush canvases often explore a single theme repeatedly, such as his signature; and Tauba Auerbach, whose highly formal explorations of materials challenge conventional modes of perception. Additional artists include Rudolf Stingel, Christopher Wool, Glenn Ligon, Urs Fischer, Mark Bradford, Wade Guyton, Kelley Walker, Seth Price, Kerstin Brätsch and Adele Röder, and Sterling Ruby. The exhibition catalogue features a roundtable discussion between Jeffrey Deitch, art historian Johanna Burton, and curators James Meyer and Scott Rothkopf.
Rise of the Printers
For the exhibition at the Josef Albers Museum the artist created four paintings, which are integrated into the presentation of works by Josef Albers starting a dialogue with them. Guyton's work is connected with the tradition of Modernism, which culminated in the paintings of the ,New York School' and in Minimal Art. With sparse vocabulary he is examining the different possibilities of a visual language. At the same time Wade Guyton is testing the idea of artistic authorship: the creative process is disconnected from the artist's own hand, his paintings are programmed on a computer and then printed on classical canvas to give them a physical form.00Exhibition: Josef Albers Museum Quadrat, Bottrop, Germany (23.11.2014 - 15.02.2015).

Wade Guyton is best known for his large-scale canvas paintings made with a conventional inkjet printer, which feature iconic subjects such as flames, the letters X and U, and the New York Times website. The next in the series of Wade Guyton's Zeichnungen artist's books, this volume was produced on the occasion of his exhibition at the Museum Brandhorst in 2017. The publication depicts a collection of book pages, printed over with photographs, bitmap files, and screen captures from websites, piled onto his studio's kitchen floor.
