The Alcalde
As the magazine of the Texas Exes, The Alcalde has united alumni and friends of The University of Texas at Austin for nearly 100 years. The Alcalde serves as an intellectual crossroads where UT's luminaries - artists, engineers, executives, musicians, attorneys, journalists, lawmakers, and professors among them - meet bimonthly to exchange ideas. Its pages also offer a place for Texas Exes to swap stories and share memories of Austin and their alma mater. The magazine's unique name is Spanish for "mayor" or "chief magistrate"; the nickname of the governor who signed UT into existence was "The Old Alcalde."

Autobiographical Writings on Mexico
This is the definitive bibliography of autobiographical writings on Mexico. The book incorporates works by Mexicans and foreigners, with authors ranging from disinherited peasants, women, servants and revolutionaries to more famous painters, writers, singers, journalists and politicians. Primary sources of historic and artistic value, the writings listed provide multiple perspectives on Mexico's past and give clues to a national Mexican identity. This work presents 1,850 entries, including autobiographies, memoirs, collections of letters, diaries, oral autobiographies, interviews, and autobiographical novels and essays. Over 1,500 entries list works from native-born Mexicans written between 1691 and 2003. Entries include basic bibliographical data, genre, author's life dates, narrative dates, available translations into English, and annotation. The bibliography is indexed by author, title and subject, and appendices provide a chronological listing of works and a list of selected outstanding autobiographies.
Falfurrias
Like many pioneer western cattlemen, Ed C. Lasater was confident, optimistic, and an aggressive user of bank credit. This history of the South Texas rancher and dairyman paints a vivid picture of frontier agriculture in an era that featured some of the region and the nation's most progressive and most trying times. Lasater, born near Goliad in 1860, purchased extensive landholdings in South Texas in the late nineteenth century. In 1904 he founded the town of Falfurrias. The author, a grandson of Ed C. Lasater, describes the settlers' arrival near the Loma Blanca, the area's principal landmark, and the pioneering efforts of the families who moved to the developing region. Falfurrias describes not only the development of Lasater's agricultural interests, which included the world's largest herd of Jersey milk cows and a creamery whose brand-name butter is still sold in the region today. Lasater was also active in politics, combating the early signs of "bossism" in South Texas counties. He ran for governor on the Progressive ticket in 1912, and served as an appointee in the U.S. Food Administration in 1917.

Finnegans Wake
This is the only full-length study of Finnegans Wake to outline and catalog the immense amount of naturalistic detail from which Joyce built the book. The opening chapters describe the physical setting, time, and main characters out of which the book is constructed. John Gordon argues that behind this detail is an essentially autobiographical story involving Joyce's history and, in particular, his feelings toward his father, wife, daughter and the older brother who died in infancy. Many of the author's findings are new and likely to be controversial because recent criticism has tended to the belief that what he attempts to do cannot be done. This new study of Finnegans Wake represents a radically conservative approach and is intended to function both as a guide to the newcomer seeking a chapter-by-chapter plot summary and as an original contribution to Joyce criticism.
