Wilhelm Grube (1855-1908)
Wilhelm Grube (1855-1908), ein Schuler des Petersburger Sinologen Vasil'ev und des Leipziger Sprachwissenschaftlers Georg von der Gabelentz, war als Sinologe am Berliner Volkerkundemuseum und als Professor an der Berliner Universitat tatig, wo Otto Franke, Berthold Laufer und Erich Haenisch zu seinen Schulern zahlten. Seine Hauptwerke sind - bis heute geschatzt und zum Teil nachgedruckt - die Geschichte der chinesischen Literatur, Zur Pekinger Volkskunde, Sprache und Schrift der Jurcen, Chinesische Schattenspiele sowie die Ubersetzung des mythologischen Romans Fengshen yanyi. Dieser Band enthalt ein revidiertes Schriftenverzeichnis, lebendig geschriebene Briefe von seiner Reise nach Ostasien 1897-1898, Briefwechsel mit dem Petersburger Iranisten Carl Salemann und mit dem spater in Peru wirkenden Ethnologen Max Uhle sowie eine Beschreibung seiner bislang unbekannten chinesischen Sammlung, die sich heute in Schloss Gottorf befindet. Das Leben und Werk dieses fur die deutsche Sinologie bedeutenden Gelehrten wird in diesem Band umfassend vorgestellt und gewurdigt.
