De literaire apologie, een alternatieve verdediging van het christendom
Na een lange stilte voelen christenen zich vanaf de negentiende eeuw, met name de laatste decennia, geroepen om zich weer te verdedigen tegen aanvallen op hun religie. Dat heeft enerzijds te maken met de opkomst van diverse wetenschappelijke bevindingen, anderzijds met een interne crisis, zoals recente uitkomsten van diverse rapporten laten zien. Terwijl traditionele apologeten kritiek op het christendom door ‘tegenspraak’ probeerden te weerleggen, kan men ook een literaire lijn vaststellen, waarin het religieuze individu zich veeleer op een poëtische wijze ‘uitspreekt’.
