A PENSIONER’S JOURNEY AND HIS LEGACY

The suffering of an immeasurable loss by an aged pensioner leads him on a journey from which he knows from the start that there is no return option. On that journey he encounters a psychologically damaged war veteran just returned from Iraq. Trying desperately to mentally recover from his war induced mental state he is confronted with the abduction of his young daughter presumably by a known paedophile. The two form a bond as the old man seeks to find the young girl and justice. From the ensuing amalgamation of minds and resources two organisations are formed with diametrically opposed methods of achieving similar goals. Behind that opposition lies an inescapable bond of love and gratitude. Vigilante justice or legislative reform will prevail eventually. What will be his legacy?

1918 Year of Victory

The First World War was a turning point in history. It marked the birth of the modern era and established the pattern for large-scale violence, devastation and genocide throughout the wars of the 20th century. Old empires disintegrated and new nations emerged in the maelstrom of the war and its aftermath. The peace settlements reshaped national boundaries, leaving tensions and rivalries between nation states and people that resonate to the present day. Historians continue to explore and challenge many assumptions and perceptions surrounding the conflict, from its origins and causes, to the responsibility for its conduct, the reasons for Allied victory over the Central Powers, and the consequ...

A Matter of Weeks Rather Than Months

Founded on 35 years of research into o the post-1945 Anglo-Rhodesian history, this book complements Richard Wood's The Welensky Papers: A History of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland: 1953-1963 (1983) and So Far and No Further! Rhodesia's bid for independence during the retreat from empire: 1959-1965 (2005). Of So Far, Michael Hartnack wrote that 'Once in a lifetime comes a book which must force a total shift in the thinking person's perception of an epoch, and of all the prominent characters who featured in it.' A Matter of Weeks Rather than Months recounts the action and reaction to Ian Smith's unilateral declaration of Rhodesia's independence, the second such declaration since the ...

Romford in the Great War

Romford in the Great War tells the remarkable story of Romford and its surrounding areas from the outbreak of the Great War in 1914, to the long-awaited peace of 1918. Romford had a considerable military connection during the war. The area was largely associated with the famous Sportsman's Battalions, the 23rd and 24th Battalions of the Royal Fusiliers, that, as the title suggests, was made up of well-known sportsmen of the day. Initially, the battalion stayed at Hare Hall camp in Romford and Grey Towers Camp in Hornchurch, respectively. The equally famous Artists Rifles took over Hare Hall after the Sportsman Battalion left, and went on to become a renowned officer training corps. The book t...
