Britain and the Vatican During the Second World War
The book studies the use made by the British government of its envoy, immured inside the Vatican from 1940 to 1944, and what the envoy made of such opportunities during the Second World War to help the Allied cause. We see the Vatican, the Fascist Italy, from 'inside', and so gain a new and rare perspective into the predicament of the papacy. Owen Chadwick gives insight into the workings of the Vatican, including such questions as the struggle to keep Italy out of the war, the relations between the Vatican and the Fascist government, the use which the British sought to make of Vatican radio, the question of condemning atrocities, the bombing of Rome, the fall of Fascism, the armistice between the Allies and Italy, the German occupation of Rome, and the escape line for British prisoners of war. The author has used several groups of hitherto unexplored archives, and makes a fresh contribution both to the history of the Second World War and to the modern history of the papacy.

The Battle for Berlin, Ontario
In August 1914, Berlin, Ontario, settled largely by people of German origin, was a thriving, peaceful city. By the spring of 1915 it was a city torn apart by the tensions of war. By September 1916, Berlin had become Kitchener. It began with the need to raise a battalion of 1,100 men to support the British war effort. Meeting with resistance from a peace-loving community and spurred on by the jingoistic nationalism that demanded troops to fight the hated “Hun,” frustrated soldiers began assaulting citizens in the streets and, on one infamous occasion, a Lutheran clergyman in his parsonage. Out of this turmoil arose a movement to rid the city of its German name, and this campaign, together with the recruiting efforts, made 1916 the most turbulent year in Kitchener’s history. This is the story of the men and women involved in these battles, the soldiers, the civic officials, the business leaders, and the innocent bystanders, and how they behaved in the face of conditions they had never before experienced.

The fallen-angels have arrived on Dragonsbreath and as they harvest the souls of the population, some actively seek Syalonis. As the goddess hides, she urges her reluctant saviour, Tan, to flee the advance of the fallen. Angel of Rage Tan has been warned by his guard daughter of the presence of the fallen-angels. It is vital that he escape from the advance of the fallen but he remains oblivious to their presence. After his companions witness the fall of several cities and he sees the devastation of one city with his own eyes he finally starts to understand that something is amiss. He needs to react quickly but, unfortunately, the most vicious of fallen-angels, the insane Angel of Rage, Arteekee, is bringing her fleet to him.
