Evaluation of Basic Government Service Capability in Chinese Cities
This book reports on the results of a survey of 38 major Chinese cities’ public service performances and provides an overview of the development of basic public services in the larger cities. The quality of urban public services is examined from 9 different perspectives: basic healthcare and public health, housing, public transportation, public security, employment and social security, compulsory education, urban environment, culture and sports, and government services. Moreover, a series of indices are applied to further study the degree of public satisfaction with basic public services in these cities. These indices include the index of GDP leveraging satisfaction with basic public services, the rising index of satisfaction with basic public services in cities, and the development index of satisfaction with the basic public service elements. On the basis of the survey results, this book also identifies the most important social issues among the surveyed public, including food and drinking water safety, information security, housing prices, pensions, and air and environment quality.
The New Chinese Documentary Film Movement

Customized Artificial Implants: Bionic Design and Multiscale Evaluation
Artificial implants have been commonly used to replace or fix damaged tissue in orthopedics. However, due to the inter-individual differences and the complexities of anatomical structures and load conditions, traditional implants cannot meet the clinical requirements. In recent years, questions relating to customized artificial implants have been getting more and more attention from the research community. Challenges to implementing precision design and evaluation arise not only from the design need of considering bionic structures, kinematical function, mechanical performances, and biological functional similarity but also from the multiscale comprehensive evaluation, the latter involves biomechanics and biotribology of musculoskeletal systems from macro musculoskeletal multibody dynamics to micromechanics of porous structures. Established analysis technologies such as musculoskeletal multibody dynamics modeling and neuromusculoskeletal modeling are being well developed and evolved through combining/coupling with finite element analyses and, more recently, by novel artificial intelligence approaches.
Connectionist-Symbolic Integration
A variety of ideas, approaches, and techniques exist -- in terms of both architecture and learning -- and this abundance seems to lead to many exciting possibilities in terms of theoretical advances and application potentials. Despite the apparent diversity, there is clearly an underlying unifying theme: architectures that bring together symbolic and connectionist models to achieve a synthesis and synergy of the two different paradigms, and the learning and knowledge acquisition methods for developing such architectures. TRUST IN ROBOTS
Robots are increasingly becoming prevalent in our daily lives within our living or working spaces. We hope that robots will take up tedious, mundane or dirty chores and make our lives more comfortable, easy and enjoyable by providing companionship and care. However, robots may pose a threat to human privacy, safety and autonomy; therefore, it is necessary to have constant control over the developing technology to ensure the benevolent intentions and safety of autonomous systems. Building trust in (autonomous) robotic systems is thus necessary. The title of this book highlights this challenge: “Trust in robots—Trusting robots”. Herein, various notions and research areas associated with robots are unified. The theme “Trust in robots” addresses the development of technology that is trustworthy for users; “Trusting robots” focuses on building a trusting relationship with robots, furthering previous research.
