Cardiorespiratory and Motor Coordination
This volume contains the contributions to a Satellite Symposium of the XXXI In ternational Congress of Physiological Sciences in Espoo, Helsinki, Finland, July 15-17,1989. The general purpose of this Symposium was to bring together specialists from different fields of physiology who work on systems that are closely linked function ally with regard to behavioral adaptation. In a certain sense it represents a contin uation of two former books on the Central Interaction Between Respiratory and Cardiovascular Control Systems 1 and on Neurovegetative Control Systems: Basic 2 Function, Integration and Disorders , but explicitly includes the relationship with motor control. Since the first book appeared, much has been achieved in the field of physiology of respiratory, cardiovascular, and somatomotor control. It is not intended that this book compete with other publications from more specialized meetings which deal with the most recent findings in a particular field of research, and rightly so.
Knowledge-Based and Intelligent Information and Engineering Systems, Part I
The four-volume set LNAI 6881-LNAI 6884 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information and Engineering Systems, KES 2011, held in Kaiserslautern, Germany, in September 2011. Part 1: The total of 244 high-quality papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The 61 papers of Part 1 are organized in topical sections on artificial neural networks, connectionists systems and evolutionary computation, machine learning and classical AI, agent, multi-agentsystems, knowledge based and expert systems, intelligent vision, image processing and signal processing, knowledge management, ontologies, and data mining.

Seven years have elapsed since Dr. Renee Ford, editor-in-chief of Materials Technology, first suggested to me to publish a book on Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs). She said that the FGM concept, then largely unknown outside of Japan and a relatively few laboratories elsewhere, would be of great interest to everyone working in the materials field because of its potentially universal applicability. Interleaving Concepts for Digital-to-Analog Converters
Modern complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) digital-to-analog converters (DACs) are limited in their bandwidth due to technological constraints. These limitations can be overcome by parallel DAC architectures, which are called interleaving concepts. Christian Schmidt analyzes the limitations and the potential of two innovative DAC interleaving concepts to provide the basis for a practical implementation: the analog multiplexing DAC (AMUX-DAC) and the frequency interleaving DAC (FI-DAC). He presents analytical and discrete-time models as a theoretical foundation and develops digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms to compensate the analog impairments. Further, he quantifies the impact of various limiting parameters with numerical simulations and verifies both concepts in laboratory experiments. About the Author: Christian Schmidt works at the Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz-Institute, Berlin, Germany, on innovative solutions for broadband signal generation in the field of optical communications. The studies for his dissertation were carried out at the Technische Universität Berlin and at the Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz-Institute, both Berlin, Germany.
Ninth International Conference on Ferrites (ICF-9)
This proceedings includes 147 papers covering the latest scientific and technological developments in ferrites and related materials in three broad subject categories: Basic Science, Processing and Applications, and Special Topics and New Horizons. There are two main categories for ferrites: hard ferrites (permanent magnets) and soft ferrites. Topics covered are energy conversion, magnetite biomineralization, microwave ferrites, magneto-optical properties and applications of ferrite films, bonded magnets, physics of electronic superstructures in magnetite, physics of perovskites, nanostructural ferrites, and multilayer chip inductors.
