In Hong Kong's Legislature Under China's Sovereignty: 1998-2013 Dr Gu Yu thoroughly analyses how Hong Kong’s legislature has impacted the law-making process as well as the financial control and supervision of the executive branch of the government. The political cleavage in Hong Kong seen in recent years has affected the level of Legco’s autonomy in terms of leadership, rules, committee autonomy and control over the legislative agenda. Given the weakened autonomy of Legco and the decline of moderate forces in both the pro-Beijing and pro-democracy camps, the role of Legco as a collective actor of checks and balances against the executive branch has been weakened. One-dimensional Hyperbolic Conservation Laws And Their Applications
This book is a collection of lecture notes for the LIASFMA Shanghai Summer School on 'One-dimensional Hyperbolic Conservation Laws and Their Applications' which was held during August 16 to August 27, 2015 at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China. This summer school is one of the activities promoted by Sino-French International Associate Laboratory in Applied Mathematics (LIASFMA in short). LIASFMA was established jointly by eight institutions in China and France in 2014, which is aimed at providing a platform for some of the leading French and Chinese mathematicians to conduct in-depth researches, extensive exchanges, and student training in the field of applied mathematics. China's New United Front Work in Hong Kong
This book explores the dynamics of China’s new united front work in Hong Kong. Mainland Chinese penetrative politics can be seen in the activities of local pro-Beijing political parties, clans and neighborhood associations, labor unions, women and media organizations, district federations, and some religious groups. However, united front work in the educational and youth sectors of civil society has encountered strong resistance because many Hong Kong people are post-materialistic and uphold their core values of human rights, the rule of law and transparency. China’s new united front work in Hong Kong has been influenced by its domestic turn toward “hard” authoritarianism, making Beijing see Hong Kong’s democratic activists and radicals as political enemies. Hong Kong’s “one country, two systems” is drifting toward “one country, two mixed systems” with some degree of convergence. Yet, Taiwan and some foreign countries have seen China’s united front work as politically destabilizing and penetrative.
